5/30/2010 12:18:26 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 29: In a bid to strike harmonious chord with the Gujjar community, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi today said that the relationship of Congress and this tribe was quite old and it was her prime duty to 'help' the community overcome its backwardness. Sonia assured Centre would reach out to them with various schemes to end their deprivation on various fronts and ensure their upliftment. "The relationship of Congress with Gujjars dates back to the era of great leaders Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and even Rajivji…..they all were concerned over the plight of this community", Gandhi said while speaking in function after inauguration of Gurjar Centre for Culture and heritage at Bypass road here today. The Heritage Centre was inaugurated by her today amid 'confluence' of political dignitaries of all hues. Gujjars, she said have always paid a price while confronting with difficult situations but never compromised with their basic ideals and distinct identity. " I am proud of this….they are all an important part of our country and UPA government will...

Activists make Sonia to skip Srinagar
5/30/2010 12:17:13 AM
ABID SHAH EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, May 29: Somehow Congress president Sonia Gandhi's decision to confine her today's visit to Jammu alone and keeping off from a stopover at Srinagar has come at a time when the Shopian case completes a year. It was on May 28, 2009 when two young women from Shopian had disappeared. A couple of days later their bodies were found. And this had led to allegations of abduction rape and murder. The fact that the incident becomes a year old now was pointed out by a group of prominent rights activists here yesterday when the postponement of the UPA chairperson's visit to Srinagar after a jaunt by her at Jammu could well have been opted for. These activists...

Does right to protest exist in democratic Kashmir?
5/30/2010 12:13:12 AM
ET REPORT JAMMU, May 29: Even as the defense minister, AK Antony assured strict action against the culprits involved in Nadihal killings, the police in Kashmir used force on the people carrying the coffins of the exhumed youth to their native village for proper burial. Yet again the message was conveyed in clear and strong terms. `You cannot register protest even if you are killed in a fake encounter. Just keep mum. Chanting slogans while carrying coffins amounts to severe breach of security of the state.' The people of Kashmir came out in large numbers to fight the `raiders' in 1947 to uphold the decision of joining the Indian union. New Delhi, perhaps, was more than satisfied by the `K...

Anti-India meet in July: Washington has become hub of anti-India activities
5/30/2010 12:12:36 AM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 29: Washington DC was never and shall never be friend of India. Ever since 1948-49, when New Delhi lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council about the Pakistani attack on Jammu and Kashmir, Washington DC has been consistently siding with the aggressor Pakistan and overtly and covertly helping the cause of the Kashmiri separatists and communalists. In fact, the unnatural formation Pakistan would have collapsed years ago and the Kashmir-based militants/terrorists/separatists would have become quite irrelevant long ago, had Washington DC not given them over and covert support and helped their communal cause. There is not a single instance that coul...
