Kapur sits in top bureaucratic chair

Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 9 Putting all speculations to rest the government today cleared posting of Sham Singh Kapur as next Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir. The top bureaucratic post had fallen vacant following premature retirement of BR Kundal who was subsequently inducted in the Ghulam Nabi Azad cabinet on Friday After an initial resistance from the Peoples Democratic Party, a consensus had reached between the key coalition partners on the issue of next Chief Secretary. The state Cabinet which met in Srinagar this morning cleared the name of Kapur which already almost certain. Later in the afternoon Kapur assumed the office of Chief Secretary. He was called on by a number of top bureaucrats to greet him on his elevation to the highest bureaucratic office. Kapur enters the prestigious and most challenging assignment of Chief Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir with rich and varied administrative experience. Even though the government has constituted a panel to examine the demand of transporters but the strike is unlikely to be called off till a final decision is taken. Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 9 Addressing a long pending demand of cultural and religious minorities in Jammu and Kashmir, the state is likely to have a Minority Commission soon. A decision to this effect is likely to be taken well ahead of elections, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), the only state in the country without a Minority Commission, may soon have one with Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad likely to give "We hope to get the Chief Minister's approval to our proposal for setting up a minority commission in the state soon," a highly placed source in the Social Welfare Department said today. Early Times Reporter Jammu | June 9 With just ten days left for commencement of the annual Amarnath yatra as many as two lakh pilgrims have been registered and the number if likely to grow by another one lakh in next ten days. The Amarnath yatra is set to commence from June 18 and two lakh pilgrims have already registered across different centers in the country, said the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board officials.
