Zargar after Zargar after Zargar at SKIMS is OK
But gap after gap after gap between the joints is a flaw
6/5/2011 11:55:43 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, June 5: Appointment of a new Director for the prestigious Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) was a matter of interest for one and all after Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar showed no inclination for a second term. There were pessimists in academia and intelligentsia but the men in power had predominantly Dr Showkat Ali Zargar’s selection a foregone conclusion. For them, it was not simply a matter of mundane continuity— anesthetist Dr Meraj-ud-din Zargar in Farooq Abdullah’s government, endocrinologist Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar in Ghulam Nabi Azad’s government and gastroenterologist Dr Showkat Ali Zargar in Omar Abdullah’s government. They knew it all that none among rest of the dozen-odd candidates had the required political clout and clientele. While the famous gastroenterologist did his job, his detractors left no stone unturned to berate him. If well-placed bureaucratic sources are to be believed, contenders for top slot of the tertiary care hospital-cum-deemed medical university acquired footage of a pro-Azadi demonstration be...

Why govt has chosen to ‘freeze’ status of Hindu Shrines bill…..?
Community initiates to mobilize , garner support for passage in next session
6/5/2011 11:54:38 PM
Saroj Razdan EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, June 5: It sounds ironical that political parties conduct themselves differently on issues while they are in opposition and in power. Even as it came as a private members bill, the crucial Hindu Shrines Bill was first moved by the then leader of opposition AR Rather few years back and now when NC is in power it has chosen to keep this in frozen state even after having been introduced two years back. Is this political expediency or coalition compulsion on other counts which does not allow any forward movement in converting this bill into an Act which is vital in terms of sentiments of the migrated community ? Shelving of the Hindu Shrines and ...

6/5/2011 11:53:02 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, June 5: Whether declaration of rural backward areas has benefited the people of the areas declared as RBA by the State government for last one decade or not but it has surely helped the revenue officials in minting a good money. 6/5/2011 11:52:25 PM
Rustam EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 5: “Tourists are guests and they need respect, love and affection from the common masses in Kashmir. A notion is being given that we are against tourism and arrival of tourists to Kashmir. This is not true, as we too want people to come over here and enjoy their stay. But at the same time, it is important that people living in various parts of India are made aware about the ground situation in Kashmir. The message which we have printed gives the real time account of the existing situation in Kashmir. The message is available in English, Urdu and Hindi. This message would be handed over to the tourists so that they come to know about the ground situati...

Do displaced Pundits really want to return to Kashmir?
6/5/2011 11:51:34 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, June 5: The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik has urged the Migrant Pundits to visit Khirbhawani Shrine in large numbers this year. Malik also intends to hold a seminar to ‘pave way’ for their homecoming. Pertinent to mention here the Pundits hold Malik mainly responsible for their exodus. He has been heckled by angry Pundits at New Delhi repeatedly. The exodus of Kashmir pundits in 1990 added yet another chapter to the beleaguered history of Jammu Kashmir. While everybody ranging from the government to social work activists shed tears over their miserable plight, a very important question remains un-answered. Do they really ...

Action Against Baba Ramdev
6/5/2011 11:51:10 PM
Neha EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 5: In June 1975, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency to save her chair. She murdered democracy, imposed wartime restrictions on civil liberties, gagged the Press, unleashed a wave of senseless brutalities to silence and punish her critics and took recourse to undemocratic methods after the Allahabad High Court unseated her on the ground that she had indulged in malpractices to win election. At that time, movement against corruption was at its peak. Jaiprakash Narain was in the forefront. All the political parties, barring perhaps the CPI, were with the movement. Indira Gandhi and her son Sanjay Gandhi did all that they c...
