EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 14: Reinforcements had been rushed to the thick and treacherous Beri Rakh forests of Mendhar in Poonch to hunt down the six odd holed up terrorists, who Tuesday night killed an army Major and injured six others, including a Colonel, in an ambush. The terrorists, all stated to have infiltrated into India from across the Line of Control (LoC), last night made two attempts to break the army cordon, but troops foiled them. Official sources said the gunbattle, which stopped late last night, restarted at 7 am today. The intermittent exchange of fire continued till 4 pm after which there was no fire from the other side, the sources added. Sources said Romeo Force GOC, Maj Gen K AS Bhullar was personally supervising the operation. The militants, said to be foreigners in the age group of 18-21 years, were frequenting the area for the past few days and locals had sighted them several times. EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 14: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) district commander was killed by security forces in a gunbattle in Bunjwan Kithar forests of Kishtwar this morning. Police sources said acting on a tip-off, police and army jawans cordoned off a hideout of LeT militants in Bunjwan Kithar forests in the morning. While the jawans were closing in on the hideout, militants opened fire on them, which was returned, the sources added. In the ensuing exchange of fire that lasted over an hour, jawans shot dead one militant who was identified as LeT district commander Mohammad Ishaq of Goni Patnazi, Kishtwar. The minister was asked to comment on his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi's reported comment to take up the issue of alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir during talks with Krishna Thursday. EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, July 14: About 9,000 pilgrims left Baltal and Pahalgam base camps today for the holy Amarnath cave shrine. According to sources 8760 yatris today left for Amarnath Cave shrine for darshan of natural Shivlingam. Out of 8760 pilgrims , 3963 yatris comprising 2725 males , 907 females ,136 children and 195 sadhus left from Pahalgam base camp while 4797 comprising 3065 male, 1385 female , 341 children and 6 sadhus left from Baltal Base camp.
