| Omar may take Legislative Council route to re-enter state legislature | | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 17: The NC on Tuesday announced the first list of its 32 candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir. The party gave mandate to 20 out of the 28 sitting MLAs. 10 ministers and Speaker were, among the 20 candidates, who were again given the mandate. Significantly, the name of working president and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was conspicuous by its absence in the list of its 32 candidates.
The absence of the name of Omar Abdullah in the list of party candidates did indicate that the NC working president was not really willing to test political waters in the Ganderbal assembly constituency he at present represents in the a...

He told KNS that the state treasuries are running dry with the payment of hundreds of crores pending to the contractors and other agencies. "The state government i...

| | | | Favorites still favourable, no change in administrative apparatus | | | | Bashir Assad
Srinagar, July 17: The Omar Abdullah-led coalition government has failed yet again in infusing a new life in the administrative apparatus, courtesy the dissent in the state cabinet on petty partisan interests. Yesterday, the state cabinet effected the much-awaited transfers in the bureaucratic set-up at higher level.
However, it could not bring a desirable change in the departments falling under the category of essential services, which Omar Abdullah himself refers to as the 'sadak, bijli, pani' departments. It is shocking that the ministers in the cabinet are engaged in hectic lobbying to save their blue-eyed officers. Reliable sources in the Civil Secretariat told ...
| | | | Politics of walkout will not help Congress | | Too little, too late | | | Rustam
JAMMU, July 17: The already at-the-receiving-end Congress party yet again lost the opportunity to win back the trust of the alienated refugees Pakistan-occupied-Jammu & Kashmir. The case in point is the canny walkout by three Congress ministers - all from Jammu - from the cabinet meeting on Wednesday after the Omar Abdullah cabinet did not accept their suggestion that a compensation package for the refugees be worked out on the pattern of internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus. The cabinet deferred the proposal concerning the PoJK refugees. The number of these refugees, according to one estimate, is nearly 10 lakh and they influence the poll outcome in at least 20 assembly constituenc...
| | | | OMAR TO HANG BOOTS….? | | vNC failing to come up with any 'workable dispensation' | | | Mishu Gupta
JAMMU, July 17: Either the National Conference is a desperate lot or otherwise it has fallen short of its credibility in the state to spring up surprises for the people of Jammu and Kashmir to present them with some new ideology that may redeem its dead polity.
While no National Conference candidate is right now in position to react to the contemporary arrangement of the party that had assured drastic changes to make inroads back into the hearts and minds of the people , but the recent announcement of list of its members contesting the 32 seats apparently shows that NC repeating its earlier camaraderie in the contest projects that the party has no option but to repeat its cand...
