The man, who "sold" city traffic points as SSP, now lobbies to come back to traffic police as IG | | | Bharat Bhushan
Jammu, Jan 13: The SSP, who once "sold" main city points to his field officers, was now lobbying to come back to traffic police as IG.
The points put to sale by him were still considered "lucrative" in traffic police circles, police sources said.
Sources said while his this act was in no way helpful in the reduction of traffic congestion, it contributed a lot to the mess that already existed on the city roads here.
That he had stooped so low became known when a former J&K DGP, in a chat with a select group of journalists and his senior officers at police officers' mess here, made this revelation, quoting the information that flowed to him from different agencies.
"I was surprised when I came to know that the SSP had sold various rotaries and other important city points to traffic police Inspectors and SIs," he said.
The DGP said while the SSP ought to have focussed on streamlining the traffic system on the congested city roads, he opted to post Inspectors and SIs at vital points allegedly against a payment.
The SSP, who was now DIG, was likely to get promotion ...

| | Devolution of powers to Panchayats 'another failed achievements' of Govt | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 13: Among the highlighted achievements of the State government during the last three years is the announcement by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that all power is being devolved to the grassroots level with only the bigger decisions left for the secretariat to take.
The situation on the ground negates this significant assertion. The real dream of devolution of powers to the ground is the empowerment of the Panchayats. After their election to the Panchayats one universal complaint of the Sarpanches and the Panches, irrespective of the party to which they belong, is that they are shabbily treated by the officers at the block, district and the divisional level...
| | Chidambaram Snubs Rahul & Digvijaya | Dividing India For Votes | | Neha
Jammu, Jan 13: No one had ever expected that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, who now speaks very rarely, would publicly take on AICC general secretary and the Congress' "Yuvraj" Rahul Gandhi and his very close associate AICC general secretary and in-charge of Congress party in Uttar Pradesh (UP) Digvijaya Singh and take a line that could greatly damage the Congress' electoral prospectus in the very crucial State of UP. To take a line that is inconsistent with the line of Rahul could mean anything; it could even mean expulsion from the party and the government because Congress means Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. But the Home Minister did take a line that was not consistent with the...

What will Farooq Abdullah tell the UP Muslims? Of course he will find it very difficult to urge them to go to mosque five times a day. Farooq has mastered the art of dancing and that...

Jammu, Jan 13: The drug policy approved by the State cabinet has left many questions unanswered which could add to sale and purchase of spurious, sub-standard drugs instead of checking the menace which must have been the spirit behind the announcement of the drug policy.
According to the new drug policy the doctors will prescribe generic names of medicines instead of the brand names in the future. The real problem lies here which has been left unaddressed. Many fake drug companies are selling life saving drugs and other medicines under various brand names and the better medical practitioners prescribe drugs manufactured by standard companies to ensure that their ...

| | Kashmir -- a way forward | Kathwari Formula And Its Implications | | Rustam
Jammu, Jan 13: The Kathwari proposal not only envisages legislative bodies for the proposed self-governing regions on this and other side of Jammu and Kashmir but also suggests that India and Pakistan would have joint-control over the defence-related issues as well as foreign policy. There is nothing new in it except the suggestion regarding the constitution of separate legislative bodies in the proposed self-governing regions to be "governed by an agreed set of democratic principles, preferably determined and accepted through a consultative procedure that would take place with the region".
It is obvious from his proposal that he has no complaint whatever against the...
