Is Congress high command really undecided on Peerzada resignation? | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: Typical of him, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, union minister for new and renewable energy, has fired another salvo. Taking to reporters on the sidelines of a party meeting here, Dr. Farooq said the Congress President, Sonia Gandhi is yet to decide on the resignation submitted to her by Peerzada Sayeed!
Dr. Farooq also said Peerzada had overstepped his brief by claiming that he had been told to continue as a minister in the coalition government by none other than Madam Sonia Gandhi herself.
This peculiar situation have thrown up a scenario where it can be safely said that Peerzada Sayeed is continuing in the State cabinet by default and because of the indecision at the highest level in the Congress party. If Dr. Farooq is to be believed, then all is not well within the Congress party even at its highest level. On a matter of such importance where a minister has submitted his resignation following his alleged involvement in an exam scandal that involves his son and also the department headed by the minister, the Congress high command deciding to sleep over ...

| | Harsh, SSH launch scathing attack on Jammu ministers | Pampered Kashmir -- I | | Neha
Jammu, Feb 19: The Congress-led UPA Government on February 2 once again dismissed Jammu province as irrelevant and accorded a very preferential treatment to the already rather pampered and appeased Kashmir. It all happened due to the role of two senior Congress leaders at top chairs. The case in point is the sanction of an additional package of Rs 356 crore exclusively for Dal Lake, Kashmir. The decision to earmark more funds for Kashmir was taken in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and it was one of them who also has gone to national capital to persuade the authorities there to sanction an additional package for Dal Lake.

| | Cong remains a divided house | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: The unity in vertically divided State Congress remains elusive despite the crisis and efforts. And it was again evident at a public rally organised by Revenue minister Raman Bhalla on Sunday at Gandhi Nagar.
After a long time, the picture of former PCC president and former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was pasted along with PCC president Saif-ud-din Soz at a banner put up at the state at rally organised by Soz camp.
The banner also had pics of Sonia Gandi, Rahul Gandhi and interestingly Priyanka Gandhi also.

| | Will people replicate Mumbai in Jammu? | Upcoming Civic Polls | | Rustam
Jammu, Feb 19: Maharashtra Chief Minister and former in-charge of J&K Congress Prithavi Raj Chavan and those who managed the civic polls in Maharashtra, held the other day, are a dejected lot these days. They are clueless and under severe attack from all sides. The reason is the splendid victory of the Shiv Sena-BJP combine in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) elections, as also their commendable performance in six other corporations out of a total of ten. Chavan has said he is amazed and feeling surprised; he is just not in a position to explain the reasons which culminated in the spectacular victory of the Shiv Sena-BJP combine. | | Bad Omens: But do we see them? | US, Kabul, Islamabad, Delhi, Kashmir & religious cleansing | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: The debate in Pakistan after the declaration by President Obama that USA will soon withdraw around 30,000 troops from Afghanistan reveals the well informed character of the political class, media and the strategic fraternity in Pakistan, at least in the matters which they consider to be in the realm of national security. On the Indian side the debate is almost absent as if leaving of the American troops from Afghanistan is a minor development. Strategic fraternity here has commented with a muted sensitivity about the issue but the political class across the party lines in New Delhi is demonstrating an attitude which can be termed as an Ostrich Consensus.

| | ‘Give Lal Chowk's tower a watch’ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: The clock tower at Lal Chowk in the summer capital lost its importance last year. The tower was a hot spot for the separatists and main-stream politicians in 2010. Both wanted to conquer it to prove their strength (if not worth).
The government seemed desperate to keep the clock tower `out of bounds' especially for the separatists, the curbs imposed to ensure its `protection' every now and then subjected the commoner to inconvenience.
Pertinent to mention, the clock tower has no historical importance. It came up in early 80s and became politically important in 1992 when the then BJP president, Murli Manohar Joshi hoisted the tricolor on the tower. He st...
