Jammu, April 25: Barely a month after world’s second highest known bid for a car number plate in London, a gentleman in Jammu has set a record of his own by paying almost the price of a Nano car for registration number of his choice.
As two decades of militancy make names of bombs and guns more popular in Jammu and Kashmir than many other things of desire, it was the number series, incidentally, after name of a gun which fetched highest price –Rs 85,000. One Mohammad Rafiq Mir of Bathindi paid Rs 85,000 to the Transport Authority in an open auction for the registration number AK-47.
While 47 is the number allotted to his Honda Car, ‘AK’ is the current series –as part of JKO2AK. Authorities said this is the highest bid so far in Jammu and Kashmir. There were nearly ten other numbers like 1313, 1212 etc sold on bid but none could fetch more than Rs 10,000 each.

Jammu, Apr 25: Not ready to take the Election Commission of India’s decision lying down, the Peoples Democratic Party has entered into aggressive agitation mode to protest rescinding of election notification for Hazratbal assembly constituency.
While the party President Mehbooba Mufti wrote to the Chief Election Commission and dashed a copy of protest letter to the Prime Minister’s Office, the party activists took to streets to oppose the decision. Srinagar: Army on Saturday claimed that thirty-two militants out of fifty-six, who had infiltrated into Kashmir Valley this year, were killed in separate encounters in north Kashmir’s Kupwara and Bandipora district.
“Twenty six militants had infiltrated through Drangyari and Hafruda forests in the Shamsbari range (Kupwara) and a group of 31 entered via Gurez sector in Bandipora. While twenty militants were killed in Kupwara, 12 others have been gunned down in Gurez,” Brigadier General Staff (BGS) of Army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Brigadier Gurmeet Singh told reporters at the corps headquarters at Badamibagh here.
