Jammu, May 15: In a significant order, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court today quashed appointments of 162 Junior Engineers in the Mechanical Wing.
Allowing 13 petitions challenging the appointment of JEs (Mechanical), Justice Sunil Hali of J&K High Court Jammu Wing today quashed selection/ appointment of 162 Junior Engineers Mechanical made in 2004.
The controversy of selection and appointments were challenged by the unsuccessful candidates in the State High Court and after the judgment of the writ court LPA was filed. Following split judgment of the Division Bench differing in their views the matter was referred to the third Judge, who vide his judgment April 16, 1999 agreed with one of the Judge of the Division Bench. Against this order the state filed SLP in the Supreme Court which was disposed off on September 3, 2003 with directions.

New Delhi: UPA has been projected to get 210 to 225 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, way ahead of NDA, according to a private TV channel.
BJP-led NDA is expected to get 180 to 195 seats, according to "final projections" based on a national election study by CNN-IBN in association with newspaper Danik Bhaskar.
Contrary to the general perception, the study said DMK and its allies are set to "sweep" Tamil Nadu getting 47% of the vote share against AIDMK's 34%.

Srinagar, May 15: At least nine persons were injured as police fired teargas shells and used batons to disperse stone-pelting mobs demanding release of prisoners.
The clashes broke out shortly after Friday prayers at Kawdara and Rajouri Kadal near the historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar when Police stopped youth from taking out rallies in support of the demand for release of prisoners, the sources said.

Jammu, May 15: The Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan has been registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest militarized territorial dispute in the world.
The Guinness Book of World Records used the Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) world fact book to name the Kashmir issue, the longest dispute between two countries, a Pakistani newspaper The Daily Times reports.
In the latest edition of the Guinness Book of World Records, page no. 137 of the 'wars' section reads states: "According to the CIA fact book, the dispute between China, India and Pakistan for Kashmir region is the largest and most militarised dispute."
