JAMMU, June 4: In the lush-green Jaigathi forests of the mountain-locked Bhaderwah, several deodar and pine trees have been felled ruthlessly. While the officials concerned vehemently denied reports of the cutting of green gold, terming them as "baseless" and the handiwork of those who wanted to tarnish the image of the department, photographs, which Early Times has, say something else.
These photographs were taken in compartment No 32 of Jaigathi by the "lensman" who last week walked through the valleys and into the thickly-wooded hills to expose a possbile nexus between timber smugglers and officials, risking his own life.
In the photographs, some men are seen felling gr...
| | Omar defies his own logic with short-circuted truth | | | early times report
Jammu, June 4: Chief minister Omar Abdullah questioning the logic of protests in Jammu against curtailment of Amarnath Yatra said the truth is inconvenient. It's indeed inconvenient if looked in proper perspective and not through the prism of your convenience.
Even a cursory look at the past figures would suggest that yatra has increased when the duration has been increased, From 2005 till 2009 the duration has been 60-day and it increased from 3,88,000 (2005) to 5,33,368(2009).
The fact remains that the weather condition was not different at that time. And going by the logic of the Board and CM, that weather condition is not favourable, the figures clearly show tha...

| | BJP fails to agitate 'impressively' over curtailment of Amarnath Yatra duration issue | State unit in disarray | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 4: Despite issue of curtailment of annual Amarnath pilgrimage snowballing into a major controversy, BJP state unit has failed to agitate the issue the way they did in the year 2008.
Organisational abilities have gone down drastically and the party has failed to become part of the protest demonstrations in the way they did it in the year 2008. They have lost the connection which they had managed to establish with the commoners in Jammu. The party's state unit has few faces brave enough to face the public.
The MLC voting fiasco has vertically divided the unit and just because NC does not want to hold assembly elections, BJP's dissidents are having a field day...

| | Four decades later, debate refuses to die | Land to The Tiller V/S Roshni | | Abodh Sharma
Jammu, June 4: Even as many illegal occupants have been regularized as the owners of thousands of kanals of state land under hyped Roshni Act, more than four decades later, those who lost their land under Land to the Tiller Act are still questioning Government's intent in bringing about two contradictory legislations which changed the fortunes of many forever.
While under the Roshni Act, those who had illegally occupied government land were made legal owners, under the Land to The Tiller Act, the legitimate owners of their ancestral land were robbed of their properties. Interestingly, both Roshni Act and the Land to the Tiller Act were brought by governments of the National...

| | BJP has different stands on different regions | Against Jammu | | NEHA
JAMMU, June 4: The Congress party, like the National Conference and other Kashmiri parties, is also known for its bias against the people of Jammu Pradesh, notwithstanding the fact that they constitute its core constituency in the state. It is essentially Kashmir-centric and it will ever remain so. The people of Jammu province are aware of this fact. In fact, they are angry with the Congress leadership. But they are also not happy with the BJP. There are valid reasons for them to criticize the BJP and also dub it as anti-Jammu organization.
