Amidst warnings from separatists and several mainstream groups, five members of the family of a family of a non-state subject labourer were killed in a grenade explosion at Batamalloo bus stand of Srinagar.
The attack was apparently pointedly targeted on the particular family of labourers. This is the first major attack on non-state subject labourers in past two years. 25 other people including Amarnath pilgrims have also been reported injured in the attack when a grenade was hurled by unknown militants on a Jammu bound bus this afternoon.
Among the slain victims of this brutal and barbaric attack are three children aged between eight and 13 years. Widespread condemnations of the brutal killing of innocent children have poured in from different sections.

Condemning the brutal use of force by police on two of the city based media persons; the Journalists Guild (Jammu) has demanded a stern action against the erring police officials and compensation to both the victims.
In a statement issued after emergency meeting of Guild’s executive members, Devender Padha, President, termed the act of police officials as most irresponsible and undemocratic and sought the suspension of DySP M L Kaith who ordered the police action on said media persons.

Authorities in Jammu today imposed night curfew at the border belt of Jammu District as they said there was an apprehension of weapons being smuggled to subversives.
The curfew has been imposed for a period of two months, and restricts the movement of persons from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Five people, including three children, were killed and 18 others injured in a grenade blast at the busy Batamaloo bus stand in Srinagar today (July 24). Unidentified persons hurled a grenade on a Jammu-bound bus at the bus stand located in the periphery of Lal Chowk at around noon.
The grenade was hurled when the group of labourers from other states were boarding a bus to Jammu on way to their native places.
The injured were rushed to the nearby Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, off which six are said to be in a critical condition.

Angry protesters defied curfew to block highways and hold demonstrations in this Jammu and Kashmir winter capital Thursday, a day after a man allegedly committed suicide against the cancellation of land allotted to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB).
Undeterred by the curfew and agitated over the governments alleged failure to restore land to the shrine board, people in several parts of the city and its suburbs held protest demonstrations and blocked the Jammu-Pathankote and Jammu-Srinagar national highways.
The protesters were raising slogans against National Conference president Omar Abdullah and Governor N.N. Vohra.
