| | Chib's Poonch meeting stirs up hornet's nest, raises tempers of one and all | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 16: When moulanas of Poonch, led by Mufti Farooq of Jamia Masjid, had eased the tension at Mandi where thousands today gathered to denounce the act of disrespect to Islam and the Quran in the US, an emergent meeting by medical education minister R S Chib tended to hinder rather than serve the purpose.
Those, who Tuesday appreciated the role of the district administration in controlling a violent anti-US mob in Poonch, made a complete volte-face in the Chib's meeting today.

| | Battle for control leaves Kashmir high and dry | Whose writ runs in Valley? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 16: It seems the state government has finally decided to enforce its writ strictly in strife torn Kashmir. In his new calender, the chairman of Hurriyat (G) Syed Ali Geelani relaxed restrictions from dusk to dawn but the government opted for night curfew to convey the message in clear terms. The fight for gaining control of the Valley has left people high and dry.
The government found itself in a tight corner for the past three months. It had no option but to follow the separatist calendar. Life resumed or came to a halt when Geelani wished. It was Geelani who decided when the government offices should open. The impact of Geelani's influence was felt at Mum...

| | Former cop Ashok Bhan jumps on to Amitabh Mattoo's bandwagon | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 16: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah once said that he could not induct in his Council of Ministers a Kashmiri Hindu because no "suitable" Kashmiri Hindu was available, not even former Chief Secretary Vijay Bakaya. Of course, he did not name Bakaya, who masquerades as a representative of the displaced Kashmiri Hindus and works day and night to advocate the National Conference's perverted and anti-India ideology among his co-religionists. Omar Abdullah has, it now appears, got a "suitable" Kashmiri Hindu in the person of former Director General of Police Ashok Bhan. Omar Abdullah may induct Bhan in his council of Ministers subject to the condition that he remains ...
