Tiny tots dot streets after four months, race begins for studies
9/1/2008 11:48:28 PM
Munish Gupta Jammu | Sep 1 After an uncertain Saturday, a festive Sunday, the morning in Jammu was quite different –pleasant and colourful. Though the agitation had been there for two months only but the Monday morning brought rare scenes which people could see after more than four months. Freshened up children, attired in their school uniforms –different for every school –dotted the city streets waiting for their school buses. Most of the Colleges and schools in the City could not re-opened in July after they shut for the summer vacations in the last week of May. It was after four months that children were seen headed for their schools this morning. However, lean attendance was recorded in classes on the first day. The usual activity and hustle and bustle of college life was missing and classrooms wore a deserted look though the teaching fraternity was present in full strength. A handful of students came to classes and hardly any teaching began in government colleges. College principals said that the attendance in classrooms was expected to be picked up in upcoming days si...

Jammu bounces back to normalcy
9/1/2008 11:48:04 PM
Sumit Sharma Jammu | Sep 1 A new enthusiasm, fresh energy, smiles on faces and no regret for the losses summed up the scene as Jammu bounced to normal activity and markets resumed their business after a shut down of more than two months there was a brief while of normalcy in the middle of July since the agitation began. All market places, government offices, schools, banks and universities have reopened after nearly two-month long shutdown. Shopkeepers cleaned their shops and reopened them in Raghunath Bazar, Residency Road, Purani Mandi and Jain Bazar areas of old city, which was littered with spent tear-gas shells, half burnt tyres and effigies during the agitation. Shopkeepers a...

No readymade solutions, as autumn knocks after summer shut
9/1/2008 11:47:37 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 1 On day when Jammu resumed the normal business after 64 days of shutdowns, curfews, protest-demonstrations and a continuous uncertain state of affairs the business community was seen making quick beginning for a new era of peace and normalcy but one section among them appeared confused about their stocks. The fall of summer is a peak season for the readymade garment dealers to shell off cool clothes at discounted prices and deck up the shelves for autumn collection. This summer, neither the brisk sales were made nor was their any opportunity to offer products on discounted prices. Now when the markets has reopened, it is already almost beginning of au...

SAYSS aghast over Govt’s ‘words’
9/1/2008 11:43:17 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 1 A day after amicable resolution of the Shri Amarnath Shrine land row and widespread celebrations across the town, an informative piece of publicity blitzkrieg launched by the government for awareness of generation public has left a bade taste in the month. The Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti has taken exception to the use of some words an ‘advertisement’ placed by the government in some local newspapers. The advertisement issued by the Department of Information and Public Relations, obviously with concurrence of the highest echelons in Governor’s administration, refers to 800 kanals of land as “the land traditionally used for the purpose”. Look...

Police-public bonhomie returns
9/1/2008 11:42:21 PM
Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 1 It was almost a battle of Kakhi versus all other shades on the streets of this Winter Capital City for nearly two months but there is a quick change –the cops and civilians are fast getting to their normal relations –a good sign indeed. Over past two months, there were scenes of teenagers pelting stones and glass bottles on the cops and in the reciprocation the policemen shooting teargas shells and even in many cases forcefully dragging the civilians could be seen on Local TV channels. But on Sunday, the virtual victory day for Jammuites the picture was totally changed, both the policemen and civilians were again seen in a friendly and cordial rela...

Remain calm over the victory
9/1/2008 11:41:39 PM
Nirbhay Jammual Even blatedly the Governments,in Sringar and Delhi, conceded the main demands of the Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti. One may be mistaken if one thinks that it is the victory of either the Sangarsh Samiti or those groups that were part of it.It is the victory of those who died while agitating against the revocation of the land order. The agitation launched by the people in the Jammu region, which also received support in rest of the country, achieved the goal mainly on account of the martyrdom of people like Kuldeep Dogra,Dr Balwant Raj Khajuria,Manjit Singh,Romesh Kumar and others.Their sacrifices and the sufferings of scores of people who were injured awakened the central Governme...
