JAMMU, Sept 16: Decision of the State Government to shield officers who were found dereliction of their duties during floods has exposed double standard this regime. On the one hand, State Government has been threatening lower grade employees to resume their duties on September 18 at any cost, while on the other hand government is shielding the senior officers who were found not performing their duties.
Last week State Government had announced to take action against Managing Director SRTC, J S Tandon who had reportedly left Srinagar and reached Jammu at the time of crisis when their services were required at Srinagar which was marooned at that time.

SRINAGAR, Sept 16: As the flood waters are receding across Kashmir, fear of epidemic breaking out is looming large. Heaps of garbage are lying unattended in the lanes and bye lanes of many city areas as Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is missing from the scene.
With each passing day problems of people are getting aggravated as stink and dust around city is making life miserable for the flood hit people. In many places situation has taken an ugly turn. People fear if garbage and dead animals are not disposed off forthwith it can lead to epidemic breaking out in many areas.

SRINAGAR, Sept 16: Kashmir's misfortunes are not abating. Hi-power de-watering equipment has reached Srinagar, but the state does not have the manpower available to operate it, despite the dire need.
The equipment was flown to Srinagar by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in two flights over the last three days. However, the political establishment, particularly the chief minister, is at the loss as to who will operate the equipment. The Irrigation and Flood Control Department is paralyzed for lack of staff, including officers, engineers and field workers.

SRINAGAR, Sept 16: Kashmiri separatist leaders have been left exposed once again - this time by the floods in Jammu and Kashmir.
As per reports, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik was on September 13 seen disrupting relief and rescue operations in flood-hit J&K.
Malik and his aides reportedly tried to hamper the rescue and relief efforts being carried out by the Indian Army, under Operation Megh Rahat, in a flood-hit area of the Kashmir Valley.
