Tawi, Chenab spell disaster in Jammu region; toll reaches 150 | The Deluge Continues | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
JAMMU, Sept 6: Incessant rains coupled with flash floods have consumed more than 150 precious lives in Jammu region besides causing extensive damage to the private property, government buildings, vital bridges, roads and religious places.
The toll in the Jammu region has risen to 120 following the death of 14 people in a landslide in Rajouri on Friday, while many more are missing.
Both the Chenab and Tawi rivers were flowing above the danger mark today morning, with three bridges on Tawi were closed for traffic as they were declared unsafe, officials said. One, built in May, was later washed away. A bridge over the Chenab in Akhnoor was closed on Friday.

PM to visit flood-hit J K today | | | New Delhi, Sept 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow to personally assess the damage caused by floods in the state.
He will first travel to Jammu where he will undertake an aerial survey, sources said.
Later in the day, he will go to Kashmir and take stock of the situation.
The visit takes place a day after Home Minister Rajnath Singh's tour of the state which has been hit badly by the floods, claiming the lives of over 100 people.

Power Development Department today claimed that it has suffered an estimated loss of around Rs 20 crore and hundreds of transformers and receiving stations have been submerged in south and central Kashmir.
