Jammu, Oct 4: Ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s impending visit to Jammu and Kashmir later this month, the Union Cabinet Secretary KM Chandrashekhar along with a battery of officers drawn from as many as 17 central ministries is reaching Srinagar tomorrow but the state government has very little to explain as what it did with Rs 30,000 Prime Minister’s Reconstruction Programme (PMRP) funds.
That tops agenda of Chandraskehar’s team is discussion with civil society stake holders and the state government officers on sector-wise performance on the PMRP which was announced by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during UPA-I regime in November 2004. Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was then Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.

Srinagar: Life in Baramulla town remained crippled for the third consecutive day on Sunday as people defied prohibitory orders and clashed with police after a 12-year-old boy died allegedly in police action.
Total nine persons, including two policemen, were wounded.
Scores of people defied prohibitory orders and took to streets demanding stern action against the erring policemen who allegedly killed a 12-year-old youth in the town on Friday.

Jammu, Oct 4: Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah is likely take over as head of the first Information Commission of militancy torn Jammu and Kashmir by the end of this month.

Jammu, Oct 4: Four Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested by the security forces when they were allegedly trying to cross over to Pakistan along the Indo-Pak border in Samba district, officials said.
During a search operation, 7 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles troops caught the Bangladeshi nationals near the border in Hansuchak area of Vijaypur border belt in the district last night.

New Delhi, Oct 4: All villagers across India over the age of 35 will be tested for diabetes through easy and affordable test kits to reduce the burden of the lifestyle disease, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said Sunday.
"We have a huge burden of diabetes. But awareness level about the disease is very low in rural areas. We are planning diabetes tests for villagers above 35 or 40 years of age," Azad said.
"I have already held a series of meetings with my officers about it. We are serious about it and this is one of my own initiatives," he said at a conference on diabetes in South Asia here.
