AICC, JKPCC leave Omar Govt in lurch
Governor sends report on 'political corruption'; CM summoned to Delhi
10/6/2011 11:46:53 PM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz srinagar, Oct 6 : Notwithstanding the Irrigation & PHE Minister Taj Mohiuddin's moral support, principal coalition partner Congress has left Omar Abdullah's 33-month-long government to fend for itself in the wake of a fast growing onslaught from different opposition parties. While as the minor coalition partners and supporters---Ghulam Hassan Mir, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Hakeem Mohammad Yasin, Engineer Rashid---have either maintained a studied silence or demanded an inquiry into the Syed Yousuf episode, opposition parties---PDP, BJP, National Panthers Party, JSM---have been strongly calling for CBI investigation. Political analysts have noticed that Sonia Gandhi-led All India Congress Committee as well as Prof Saifuddin Soz-led Jammu & Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee have opted a discreet silence with regard to hot political developments in the state. Apart from insipid lip services of men like Ghulam Nabi Azad and Munish Tiwari, everybody in AICC and JKPCC has remained mute spectator to the political whirlpool threatening stability of the coalition governmen...

Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 6: Responding to former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah's tirade against the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), Mahbooba Mufti said his support of Omar was unacceptable. "It is a joke on the masses especially on the supporters of his party", she said. Describing Farooq Abdullah as a senior and venerated leader of the state and country, Mufti said his statement was an aberration. Abdullah had said the NC had nothing to hide. "We have nothing to hide. It is a political stunt. They (PDP) want power that is why they are leveling charges against us." Farooq lamented that the PDP had spared the Congress party. Omar's Position Untenable
Yousuf's Death: Resignation demand gaining momentum
10/6/2011 11:44:08 PM
Rustam Jammu, Oct 6: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's position as Chief Minister has become untenable in the wake of the mysterious death of Hazi Syed Mohammad Yousuf, a prominent NC activist and the one reportedly very close to the Chief Minister and his father Farooq Abdullah - close to the extent that he would frequently fly with them and that the Chief Minister would ensure his introduction with AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi. The death of Yousuf has created a stir not only in the Valley where such deaths have invariably led to violent protests, shutdowns, police-crowd clashes and created additional difficulties for the nation in Kashmir, but also across the country. Azad's 'solidarity' on Omar's stand on Yousuf's death intriguing
10/6/2011 11:43:13 PM
Neha Jammu, Oct 6: Union Health Minister and former J&K Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday sprung a big surprise. He took a stand on the ongoing fierce controversy over the circumstances leading to the death of NC worker and a close associate of NC president Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Haji Syed Mohammad Yousuf, in mysterious circumstances, which appears quite intriguing in the prevailing environment. In fact, he swung solidly behind the beleaguered Omar Abdullah and urged the opposition parties to endorse the Chief Minister's suggestion that a judicial probe into the matter that has created a volcanic situation in the already restive Kashmir Valley by a si...

Will Congress high command take moral high ground in J&K?
10/6/2011 11:42:44 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 6 : UP chief Minister Mayawati sacked two of her cabinet ministers while responding to the indictment by the state Lokayukata against one and facing the anti graft probe by the other one. Of course this action of Ms Mayawati is the outcome of Anna's expected fast before the U.P elections. J&K state at present on the one hand faces the external threats of intrusion and militancy and on the other hand is emerging as the "Corruption Den "of politicians & bureaucrats. This has caused unlimited loss to the state and the common man in particular. The present coalition government of the state has shown its worst face of governance while as the Chief Minister is ...
