Jammu, Feb 20: Despite political nod, bureaucratic red-tapism is holding back a University that could have transformed Jammu and Kashmir with the backing of religious values and outlook of modern education and training involving science and technology, management and commerce.
Poised to become the first private sector varsity in Jammu and Kashmir a proposal to set up Transworld Muslim University (TMU) has been in pipelines for years and its promoters have already put in place all that is required but the problem of its coming into being lies somewhere else. There is an invisible bureaucratic hurdle which is not even taking into account an express direction of the Chief Minister which says, “prepare the Ordinance and put up”.

Jammu, Feb 20: In a shocking incident a selection grade constable posted in Kathua on Friday morning opened fire on one of his senior officers after verbal brawl between them took an ugly turn.
According to official sources, a selection grade constable identified as Mangal Singh on Friday morning attacked sub inspector Raghubir Singh at the end of the verbal brawl between them.

Washington, Feb 20: US special envoy Richard Holbrooke has confirmed that Kashmir is not part of his mission, but hoped India and Pakistan would find common cause to reduce the threat of terrorism by taking it on head on.

Jammu, Feb 20: Panic gripped almost entire Jammu and Kashmir this morning as most parts of the state experienced moderate earthquake jolts forcing residents in many areas rushing out of their homes.
Experts said that an earthquake of 5.4-magnitude rocked the Jammu and Kashmir and Parts of Pakistan on Friday morning.
In Srinagar, the quake shook buildings making residents to rush out of their homes in panic. In many congested parts of the city residents came out on the open roads and stayed there as the quake shook the buildings for almost 10 seconds.

Jammu, Feb 20: In an important organizational decision, the National Conference has replaced its Provincial Presidents of both Kashmir and Jammu provinces with new faces. Ajay Sadhotra and Mehbooba Beig were the provincial presidents of NC for Jammu and Kashmir, respectively. Both had, however, lost the assembly elections.
The decision comes up in run up to the upcoming elections for Legislative Council and sources have claimed that Sadhotra and Beig may get seats for the Upper House and later a role in the government.

Jammu, Feb 20: The Opposition has come with a sharp reaction to the government’s decision of having brief assembly session and presenting vote on account instead of full budget.
While state's largest opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party said the decision "undermines the legislature," Jammu and Kashmir Panther's party termed it a 'joke'. Jammu, Feb 19 : The central government has renewed pre-paid mobile licences of cell phone service providers for one more year in Jammu and Kashmir and the militancy hit northeastern states, officials sources have said.
“The current licence for all the service providers for pre-paid cell phones was to expire Feb 22. There were apprehension that the authorisation might not be renewed by the centre after terrorists were found to be using such pre-paid connections,” said V. Munindranath, a senior official of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
Of the 10 million cell phone users in Jammu and Kashmir and the northeast, more than 60 percent are pre-paid users.
