| EU Troika arrive to study poll impact; Govt seeks help in jobs | | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 28 : The Jammu and Kashmir government has sought the help of European Union in addressing the unemployment problem in the state which has around 300,000 jobless youth.
A delegation of the EU Commission led by its head Daniele Smadja is on a four-day visit to the state to study the situation post-2008 polls, which saw a massive turnout of average 60 percent people participating in the democratic exercise.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made the unemployment plea to the visiting delegation during his 90-minute meeting with the visitors, an official spokesman said.
Abdullah sought cooperation from the EU in capacity building in the state to address the unemployment problem and increase the employability of the youth.
He also sought closer partnership of the EU in the development of small and medium entrepreneurship, adding this sector has a greater potential to flourish in the state and generate employment for thousands of youth.
He said enhancing this sector even by 25 percent would generate 400,000-500,000 jobs for young men and women.

Jammu, Feb 28 : Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party (JKNPP) Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and an independent candidate today staged walkout on different issues in the ongoing Assembly Session here.
Demanding details about the expenditure of state funds, the JKNPP chief whip in the House, Harsh Dev Singh accompanied by Balwant Singh Mankotia and Yash Pal Kundal staged walkout alleging that the government has failed to utilise the funds properly.
Alleging that government has failed to provide information about the disbursement of state funds to various departments, the MLAs created uproar in the House.

Jammu, Feb 28: A day after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah proved the Opposition assertions wrong in assembly, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday said that it was the party’s exemplary courage that forced the government to depute its Minister to Bandipora to know the facts. She said that the statement by one of the party leaders did not lower the party’s credibility.

Violent protests had erupted in Srinagar and many parts of North Kashmir after Army shot dead two youth at Bumai Sopore last weekend. Jammu, February 28- The State Cabinet which met here this morning under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah approved the promotion of eight police officers to the rank and scale of Deputy Inspector General. Besides promotions, the Cabinet ordered a major reshuffle on the Police hierarchy shifting 45 officers at the middle and lower rung.
The officers include Pankaj Kumar Darad (on proforma basis), SD Singh, SS Khandare (on proforma basis), Rajesh Kumar, T Namgyal, Manju Rashid, BA Malla and T Punchok. Jammu, Feb 28: Shortly ahead of the anytime expected announcement for Lak Sabha elections, the state government today affected a massive shakeup in middle and lower rung of the civil administration and the Police. This is the second major administrative shakeup since the National Conference-Congress coalition government took over on January 5.
