| Politics to ride on bureaucracy? | | | |

Jammu, March 12: With at least two former top bureaucrats reaching Upper House of the state legislature, the political parties are making choices for the retired officials to take charge of politics.
Two former Chief Secretaries and another retired senior officer recently made it to the state Legislative Council on tickets of three main parties. Vijay Bakaya and BR Kundal, both former Chief Secretaries won the Upper House elections on National Conference and Congress tickets, respectively. Syed Asghar Hussain, also a retired bureaucrat won the seat on PDP ticket.
As the fashion of recruiting former officials catches up with the political parties, the National Conference is reported to have cleared name of former top Police officer AR Wattali for by-elections to Sonawar assembly constituency while the Congress is reportedly considering, among others, the name of a serving top bureaucrat for Bhaderwah seat.

Srinagar, Mar 12: Continuing with his ambitious recruitment drive, the former Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has now shifted his focus to Kashmir even as at least three former legislators are waiting in Jammu to join the PDP anytime later this month.
Former Member of the Legislative Assembly Sheikh Mohammad Rafi today joined the Peoples Democratic Party. Rafi is an erstwhile National Conference leader who contested the recent assembly elections from Shopian constituency in South Kashmir on Awami National Conference ticket. Shopian is presently represented by Abdul Razaq Wagay of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Jammu, March 12: A devastating fire is reported to have erupted in Balakote forests of Mendhar tehsil in Poonch district following explosions of landmine blasts along the Line of Control.
Sources said fire erupted at around 7 PM last evening in compartment number 145 at Balakote in Mendhar area of the district Poonch and since then it continues to grow stronger.

Srinagar: After being suspended last week following the request by authorities in Pakistan, the weekly Karvan-e-Aman bus resumed its service Thursday and as many as 50 passengers crossed sides on the Line of Control (LoC) at Kaman post near Uri in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.
Official sources said that 19 persons boarded the “peace bus” and crossed over to Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pak via Aman Setu Bridge Thursday morning. Among the travelers included 14 from this side who are visiting their relations for the first time in Pak after the indo-Pak partition. New Delhi, March 12: Thirty years after they killed a man, the Supreme Court on Thursday let off two accused holding that they were entitled to acquittal as the act was committed in exercise of self-defence which is permitted under the law.
