JAMMU, April 15: With some respite from acrimony between traditional rivals NC and PDP after the Assembly session, the political scene appeared to be a little dull and drab. But thanks to the two warring factions of Congress which keep the 'show' going at least in Jammu. If the group comprising PCC Chief Prof Soz loyalists were on centre stage of 'performance' in Baisakhi festival for the last two days, the ante Ghulam Nabi Azad group could not take it anymore. Not to lag behind, this group today organised "Baisakhi Milan", apparently to counter what the other group has been upto for the last two days.
The function organised at Institute of Engineering Gandhi Nagar this evening, although a low key activity in comparison to the " semi official Baisakhi extravaganza" by the other group did witness participation of stalwarts like Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, veteran Gujjar leader Choudhary Mohammad Aslam, former ministers Jugal Kishore Sharma and Choudhary Gharu Ram, ex minister from Kargil Haji Nisar ALi besides others. | Media in mediator role? | | | | IN what came as a 'break' from the stereotypic versions of leaders loaded with annoyance, disagreement and disapproval' of the other faction, a senior journalist made a 'special appearance' role in the show. Apparently a friend of both the factions, this journo in his typical articulative verbatim infact presented himself as mediator for truce between the warring factions. "It is in the interest and benefit of the party as a whole if the leaders are able to shun their differences and come on a joint platform....". Was it a genuine effort of bringing reconciliation or mere posturing to make presence felt....?

| | | | Student held with answer sheet | | | | JAMMU: A B.Com. part I student was today taken into custody by police after he walked out of the examination hall at Commerce College here along with the answer sheet.
He was identified as Sonam of Leh. Police said after Sonam disappeared from the examination hall, the supervisor brought the matter to the notice of the college principal, who alerted police.
Police said while cops were searching for him, he emerged from behind the hedge in the college premises and told them that he had come out of the examination hall to attend the call of nature.
He was, however, taken into custody by cops and later handed over to the university authorities for an action against him.

KATHUA: Kathua police has arrested murder accused who committed murder on his uncle five days ago.He was arrested from Rajbagh area here today. Italian made without license pistol was also recovered from his possession.
The murderer accused Manoj Kumar committed murder of his uncle Madhan Lal and escaped from the spot . The reason behind shoot out was over property dispute in which Manoj Kumar resorted to firing towards his uncle Madan Lal and cousin brother Sudarshan Kumar in which Madan Lal who was retired cop succumbed to injuries when he was taken to GMC hospital. Sudarshan Kumar who received bullet injuries on his forehead is still battling for life.

| | | | Sopore remains on boil | | | | JAMMU: For the third consecutive day Sopore witnessed violent clashes between stone pelting youth and the police Thursday. The clashes left ten persons including four police men wounded.
Prohibitory orders under section 144 were strictly imposed in the town. However, notwithstanding the restrictions the youth engaged the police and the CRPF in ding dong battles at several places in the town.
The stone pelting youth raised slogans against the police and the CRPF and demanded stern action against the erring men in uniform who according to them forced Zubair to jump into Jehlum. Zubair, a 17-year-old-student was consumed by the river.
