For Azad's information: Roshni scheme has been lost in darkness
4/2/2012 12:50:09 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 1: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad seems to be blissfully unaware of the total fiasco of Roshni scheme which he boasted about in terms of having provided relief to the people besides collection of huge revenue. The latter part of the story is true but it would be in the fitness of the things for the former Chief Minister to know about its total failure in serving the interests of people under this scheme who are being victimized despite having paid through nose. If Azad is really unaware, it is for his information that there are at least 137 people in the list of non beneficiaries who after having been made to run from pillar to post have been forced finally to knock the doors of judiciary for justice which eluded during Azad's tenure as Chief minister and even now when Congress has completed another tenure of three years this time in coalition with National Conference. Azad must know people are being harassed for minutest details in the documents and made to wait for years for lack of unwarranted proof and papers. Roshni scheme, much hype...

Azad blames PDP for delay in Park….but where is the Park ….?
4/2/2012 12:49:38 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 1: In the political fanfare organised today on Ghulab Singh Marg, Congress 'patted' itself for dedicating a Park in the name of Maharaja Hari Singh, last Dogra ruler of the state. Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad blamed it on PDP for the delay in this project. But over three years on after he left the state, there is actually no park, worth its name and meaning at the site where a battery of Congress leaders took pride in 'crediting' the party for doing something big for Jammuites. If Azad took a dig at PDP after over four years, Congress too could not do anything substantial for its further progress in the present regime, only except expediting the fe...

Political compulsions impel Kashmiri leadership away from official function
Unveiling of Maharaja Hari Singh's statue
4/2/2012 12:48:42 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 1: Even as long awaited unveiling of the statue of Maharaja Hari Singh at Tawi Bidge on Sunday was an official government function, yet entire Kashmiri leadership, including ministers of the National Conference, and the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself were conspicuous by their absence, or more appropriately had timed their absence from the function owing to obvious political compulsions. While the long pending demand of the people of Jammu was met as the former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad unveiled the statue of the last ruler of the state who occupies a significant place in the realms of the history of the state, the Kashmiri leadership was ensuring ...

‘Omar's aircraft has cost JK Rs 12 Cr in 3 yrs’
CM's zero expenses on tours!
4/2/2012 12:48:05 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 1: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's zero expenses on tours notwithstanding; his aircraft has cost the state Rs 12 Crore during the past three years. Sceptics believe that the Chief Minister has been shuttling between the two capitals of the state and New Delhi as frequently as he goes to the toilet. According to official figures, During 2011-2012 Over Rs 78 Lac had been spent on 13 aircraft sorties carrying the Chief Minister between Jammu, Srinagar, Baramullah and between Srinagar Budgam. But the Chief Minister still deserves credit for his `zero expenses on his tours'. He must also be appreciated for spending Rs 3.23 lacs on his tours during 2009-2010 which...

It happens only in J&K!
4/2/2012 12:47:40 AM

These 50 officials have serious cases of embezzlement, black-marketing and misappropriation of ration against them lodged with Crime Branch, State Vigilance Organization (SVO) and police. Yet they have been re-instated either after being given clean chit through departmental inquiries or through the express doorway of pending outcome of the FIRs lodged ...

4-lanning of Jammu-Srinagar NH hits road block
State government fails to disburse land compensation to the affected
4/2/2012 12:47:08 AM
Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Apr 1: It may sound absurd, but fact it is that the tall claims of the government about according top priority to four lanning and maintenance of the National Highway I in Jammu and Kashmir , as was also summarily recommended by the Working Group III headed by C Rangarajan, fall flat when the official figures itself reveal that out of 528 Crores deposited under National Highway Development Project-NHDP on EPC basis as part of the North South Corridor towards land compensation, only 275 Crores have been disbursed to the affected people while as 253 Crores are still lying with Deputy Commissioners of 9 districts. This speaks volumes about the functioning of governme...

SKIMS: Hospital or money making machine?
As patients suffer for thermometers, Zarger makes a fortune
4/2/2012 12:44:31 AM
early times report Srinagar, Apr 1: Dr Showkat Zarger who heads the SKIMS has turned the ‘prestigious’ hospital into a money making machine. The fortune he has amassed has turned him lavish and arrogant. He stays in seven star hotels in Indian metros, calls 5000 employees of the SKIMS ‘useless’ and ‘thieves’, signs purchase orders himself without issuing tenders, diverts funds raised for cancer patients to an NGO, promotes nepotism and  encourages private practice by the SKIMS doctors although government has banned it. In July 2011, he managed to select his son (Dr. Abid, an average student) for DM Gastroenterology, through Dr. Darzi (the then Dean). Dr Darzi was given two year extension a...

Delhi permits UN to interfere in the country's internal affairs
Heyns, Kashmir & AFSPA
4/2/2012 12:42:06 AM
RUSTAM JAMMU, Apr 1: It was expected that United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur Christof Heyns would make common cause with secessionists in Kashmir and ask New Delhi to revoke the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and it actually happened on Friday. (The AFSPA arms the Army with special powers to tackle the menace of secessionism and terrorism.) Interacting with reporters in New Delhi, Heyns said that the "AFSPA has become a 'symbol of excessive state power' and 'has no role to play' in a democracy". He was in India on a fact-finding mission to "examine situations of extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions in India". He toured different parts of the country, including Kashm...

Early Times Report Jammu, April 1: Flaying ruling National Conference (NC) for propagating divisive policies in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti today said this party (NC) has always created differences between people of Jammu and Kashmir and rest of the country for petty political gains.
