Major shake up in Police Department

4/27/2012 12:38:32 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 26: In what is being seen as major overhaul of the Police Department at Higher level, the State Cabinet today approved reshuffle and posting of as many as 65 officers , including IGPs, thereby infusing a new dimension in the functioning aimed to make it better and in synergy with the situation of the state. This reshuffle , in which many heads have rolled , was in fact seen as an over due exercise particularly after the government ordered DPCs of a sizable number of Police officers recently. However, there is no change has been effected in the posting of the two territorial IGPs, both in Jammu as well as Kashmir. The cabinet which met this evening under the chairmanship of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah effected major reshuffle in the Police department transferring and posting as many as 63 officers at the higher level including DIGs and IGPs, besides changing SSPs at the district level. The cabinet also approved setting up of State Planning Board, one of the recommendations of the State Finance Commission, intended to ...

4/27/2012 12:37:23 AM

4/27/2012 12:36:45 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 26: Ajay Sadhotra, the two time MLA from Marh constituency, is not only being completely sidelined by the party but is not getting the political support he deserves. Sadhotra, who had at one time emerged as the political face of NC in the Jammu district, because of his connections and dealings, has even been removed from the post of provincial president of the party, reflecting the approach and management of the party. Sadhotra had successfully contested from this constituency in 1996 and 2002. He had nurtured this constituency, a rear feat for NC politician in Jammu district, and was also made Minister in previous Government of Dr Farooq Abdullah. Marh con...

92 encroachers face danger of being washed away
Tawi bed becomes hot bed of political greed
4/27/2012 12:36:31 AM
Abodh Sharma Jammu, Apr 26: At least 92 families living on the land encroached in the bed of River Tawi face danger of being washed away, but have not only ignored the warnings and notices of the department of Flood Control, but have sought a stay order from the State High Court after the department issued challans against them. While the number of those who have illegally and dangerously encroached into Tawi's bed is much higher, the department of Flood Control has issued notices only to 92 of them under the Water Act of 2010. "The encroachment started with the advent of a few Gujjar families just some years back, but soon it picked up in the form of a Gujjar Basti on the behest of two ...

Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 26: Chief Minister's uncle and National Conference additional general secretary, Dr Mustafa Kamaal today accused New Delhi of conspiring to strangle National Conference. Kamaal while talking to a local news agency said New Delhi operates through its agents in Jammu Kashmir. "These agents want to strangle National Conference. They also want the party to give up its demand for restoration of autonomy", he said. Mustafa launched the Congress, BJP and the PDP saying these parties had given tough moments to the NC. "Sher-e-Kashmir repeatedly said that Indira Gandhi subjected him to psychological torture", he said. Taking a dig at the PDP, Kamaal said the Governm...

Will MLA East come to Tawi's rescue, save it from further deterioration?
4/27/2012 12:35:39 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 26: The Tawi river, which flows through the City of Temples, is indeed in a very pathetic condition. While for some, it serves as a septic tank, for others, it is a place to dump urban waste. It is also known by the name of Suryaputri (daughter of Sun). Its sacredness and religious importance notwithstanding, the sewage and human waste directly flows into it at many places in the city, right from Panjtirthi to Raipur-Satwari. It would not be wrong to say that the river's city stretch is virtually turned into a nullah, carrying filth. Jammuites, however, seem to be unconcerned about it and not in a mood to take remedial measures on their own. But doesn't it...

Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 26: The state Congress leaders intend to take up Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah's latest recent on 73rd constitutional amendment with the party high command. Omar had ruled out possibility of extending the said amendment for empowering panchayats to the state because of Article 370 which gives special status to the state within Indian Union. A senior Congress leader today said that Omar Abdullah had virtually turned down the Congress demand for empowering the Panchayats by incorporating 73rd and 74 the amendments in the state constitution. He said the PDP, BJP and the Panthers Party have already launched a vigorous campaign in favour of empowering the pancha...

SERC acting as extension of PDD, compromises its autonomous character
4/27/2012 12:34:46 AM
Early Times Report srinagar, Apr 26: State Electricity Regulatory Commission (SERC) has virtually lost its autonomous character as the body is dancing to the tunes of Power Development Department making it an extension of the department to justify unprecedented power tariff hike in the State. Instead of acting as a deterrent against the irrational moves of Power Development Department (PDD), J&K SERC has allowed an unprecedented hike of over 150% in the power tariff since its induction in 2007 -08 from average value of Rs. 1.40 per unit in the year 2006-07 (before SERC issued first tariff order for 2007-08) to Rs. 3.65 /unit in 2012-13. Curiously enough, the rate revision has been affect...

Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 26: The man of peace, as Pakistan Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani, was called by the Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, is safe but not yet free from the sword of Damocles hanging on his head. In fact the cloud of uncertainty hanging over Gilani's head, following his conviction by the Supreme Court today, has increased the level of political instability in Pakistan. Reports reaching here from across the border have revealed that the Supreme Court of Pakistan convicted Gilani for contempt of court for refusing to revive graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. Gilani while refusing to re-open the graft cases had took shelter under the National...
