State asked to clear power dues or face action

Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 3 The power ministry has issued a stern advisory to Jammu and Kashmir, which owe more than rupees six hundred crores to Power Grid Corporation of India, for overdrawing power, asking the state power department to discipline itself and pay arrears, failing which it would face severe action. Well informed sources in the power corridors disclosed that the new advisory comes in the backdrop of recent growing demand of the state government asking the state government to transfer some of the prestigious projects, including recently commissioned National Hydro Electric Power Project, to the state. Sources said that state of Jammu and Kashmir is one of the states, which is overdrawing power from last few months creating panic in the Northern Grid. Power Grid Corporation of India's northern regional load dispatch centre and western regional load dispatch centre had issued cessation of overdrawal messages in April, 2008. Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 3 The Army vigil at the Line of Control (LoC) in stopping infiltration from across the border, and counter-insurgency operations in the hinterlands of Jammu and Kashmir have resulted in drastic decline in violence in the state, the army said Saturday. “The current situation in Jammu and Kashmir is under control,” defence spokesman Lt. Col. S.D. Goswami said Saturday while releasing the assessment of the situation in the state that has been affected by terrorism for over 18 years now. Early Times Reporter Jammu | May 3 Ashes of Nirmala Deshpande (Didi) were immersed in sacred Suryaputri river Tawi after public darshans at Dewan-e-Aam, Mubarak Mandi. S P Varma State Chief of Akhil Bharat Rachnatmak Samaj brought the ashes from New Delhi. Sarabjit execution stayed indefinitely

Lahore | May 3 The Pakistan government has postponed “till further order” the execution of Sarabjit Singh, who is on death row, his lawyer said last night. “Yes, it has been postponed till further orders by the government of Pakistan and the President of Pakistan”, said Rana Abdul Hameed. Senior Interior Ministry official Kamal Shah said that Sarabjit’s execution process has been halted.The lawyer said there were chances that Sarabjit’s death could be commuted to life imprisonment and since he has already served life sentence, he might be released.
