| Maj, soldier killed in Bandipore | | | |

SRINAGAR, May 5: In weeks of suffering fatal casualties of four soldiers, including a Major, in a major operation at Chinkipora in Sopore, Army has lost two soldiers, including a Major, in an encounter with militants at Chiitibandi village in Bandipore.
Informed sources in north Kashmir told Early Times that troops of 7-Garhwal were on way to a particular residential house in Rather Mohalla of Chittibandi village when they were fiercely attacked by a group of heavily armed militants in an ambush at 2130 hours last night. Sources said that troops had launched the operation, carrying along some personnel of Police Post Argam, on the basis of a specific information that suggested presence of some militants at a hideout.
In close vicinity of the identified hideout, troops came under a fierce attack from the militants in ambush. Major Yogindra Rajbar and Rifleman Uttam Singh got critically hit. Even as both were evacuated, rushed to Srinagar and admitted to 92 Base Hospital of Army, they breathed their last while under treatment.

| "Fake" railway employee held | | | |
JAMMU, May 05:
An alleged fake railway employee was apprehended here today while he
applied for a reduced-fare pass issued only to railway employees.
A youth approached a ticket window at the railway station here and
asked the clerk to issue him a reduced-fare pass.
He told the clerk that being a railway employee, he was entitled to
get such a pass, police sources said.
He was identified as Satpal of Bishnah.
The clerk, however, got suspicious of him and brought the matter to
the notice of some government railway police cops, who were in the
close vicinity of the ticket window.

AMRITSAR, May 05:
The Punjab DGP P S Gill today brushed aside the apprehensions as regards the revival of militancy in Punjab and asked the Pak-based Khalistani militants to return and surrender.
Several Khalistani militants, including Paramjit Singh Panjwar, Wadhawa Singh Babbar and Ranjit Singh Neeta, were hiding in Pakistan and some other countries.
The DGP asked all of them to return to India and surrender before authorities as per the existing policies of the Centre and the state. All of them had committed heinous crimes in Punjab during the height of militancy. Following police pressure on them, they had fled to Pakistan and some other countries to save their skin.

Jammu, May 5: The Handwara police Wednesday effected arrest of a SPO accused of sexually assaulting a minor. The SPO was immediately dismissed and charged under section 354 Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). The erring SPO had been evading arrest for the past two days.

The April 19 recovery of Dashmesh Regiment (DR) posters from Simble Spol, the last Punjab village on the International Border (IB) close to the J&K's Rajbagh in Kathua, has sent alarm bells ringing in the two neighbouring states.
DR -- a militant group which is part of Khalistan movement -- counts moderate Sikhs, Hindus and the government among its sworn enemies. Communal tension today gripped Badola in Udhampur after a 10th class
girl, who had become pregnant, ended her life by consuming poison
when her lover refused to marry her.
The girl, who belonged to another religion, allegedly had an affair
with Shabaz alias Anku of Badola.
Police sources said as the boy had developed physical relations with
her, the girl became pregnant.
When she asked Shabaz to marry her, he refused, the sources added.
Sources said as she was in depression following Shabaz's refusal to
marry her, she consumed poison at her residence today and ended her
life.

made the day pleasant and led to a dip in temperature providing much
needed relief to the people from scorching heat, the storm that

four houses in Bani area of Kathua.
