Jammu, June 1: In a significant order, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court today quashed the order of state government which had cancelled allotment of 31 shops by Jammu Development Authority to several private persons at the posh Bahu Plaza.
The order was cancelled by then Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad when media reported irregularities and flouting of norms in allotment of a shop/hall to one of his brothers.
The High Court today quashed the Government order No 1126-GAD dated September 22, 2007, directing the JDA to cancel the allotments of 31 shops/ halls situated at South Block, Bahu Plaza Complex Jammu and take appropriate steps for restoration of property.
While allowing a batch of petitions challenging the impugned government order Justice JP Singh of J&K High Court Jammu Wing today, in a landmark judgment, quashed the impugned order.

Jammu, June 01- Even after becoming Union Minister in the cabinet of Dr Manmohan Singh, National Conference Chief Dr Farooq Abdullah is not willing to handover the charge of the party.
In an exclusive interview to a private news channel in New Delhi Dr Abdullah has made it clear that even after becoming union minister he will continue to hold the charge of the party president and had no plans of giving up.

New Delhi Jun 1: Meira Kumar tonight resigned from the Union Cabinet to pave the way for her election as the first woman Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
A communiqu from Rashtrapathi Bhavan said that President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has accepted her resignation as Water Resources minister and her portfolio will be looked after by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Sixty-four-year-old Meira's resignation comes in the wake of her meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi who conveyed to her the Party's decision to nominate her to the post of Speaker, the election to which is slated for June three.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex climbed to hit its nine-month high, rising over 281 points in early trade on Monday, with metal and realty stocks leading the rally, supported by firming global equity markets.
The 30-share index, which had gained nearly 1,040 points in the last three sessions, jumped 281.56 points, or 1.65%, to 14,906.81, a level last seen in September 2008.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty regained the 4,500-points level to quote 90.15 points higher at 4,539.10.

Srinagar: Fifty four civilians including thirteen first timers from Pakistan Administered Kashmir exchanged sides at Line of Control (LoC) via Chakan-Da-Bagh on Poonch-Rawlakote route during weekly crossing on Monday.
Official said that 16 civilians left for PaK from Poonch. Among them, three were citizens from Poonch while 13 were returnees of PaK after meeting their families and relatives on this side for the first time since the Indo-Pak partition.
From PaK, 38 civilians reached Poonch. They include 13 first timers from PaK while 25 remaining were returnees, who came back to Poonch after their 28-day stay in PaK.

Srinagar, June 1: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today announced judicial enquiry, headed by retired Justice Muzaffar Jan, to probe the mysterious death of two women in Shopian district on Friday. He said Justice Jan will probe the circumstances leading to the death of these women and submit report in one month to the Government, which will be subsequently tabled in the Assembly to make the facts public.

Srinagar, June 1: Taking strong notice of district adminsitration’s failure to deal with the situation following the alleged rape and murder of a girl and a woman, Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered transfer of Deputy Commission Shopian.
As per the order issued by GAD Mohammad Ramzan Thakur, Deputy Commissioner, Shopian has been transferred and posted as Additional commission Kashmir, against an available vacancy. He is retiring on June 30, 2009.

Jammu and Kashmir Bank has announced its fourth quarter numbers. Its net profit increased 31.4% to Rs 78.58 crore for the quarter ended March 2009 versus Rs 59.8 crore in same quarter of previous year.
Official spokesperson of the bank stated that net interest income was up by 11.6% from Rs 224.35 crore to Rs 250.58 crore. Higher other income and lower tax also boosted bottomline of the bank. Tax was lower due to adjustment of deferred tax.
‘The bank has made provision of Rs 64.6 crore as against Rs 44 crore, YoY.
The bank has filed a claim of Rs 21 crore with RBI for Farm Loan Waiver and will have to make a further claim of Rs 4.55 crore, he said.
