NC's mass contact programme
6/5/2014 11:46:37 PM
Rustam JAMMU, June 5: National Conference (NC) has planned to launch a mass contact programme to educate public opinion about its performance and achievements. The decision is obviously taken in the aftermath of its massive defeat at the hands of the main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), which won all the three Lok Sabha seats in the Valley with an impressive margin and got 20 per cent of the total votes polled, as against the NC's tally of less than 10 per cent votes. According to the Election Commission, the NC got 11.1 per cent votes. It is not true in the sense that these figures also included the Congress votes. In any case, the PDP performed exceedingly well and the NC suf...

National Conference, no longer leading mainstream regional party of J&K
Gets wiped out in Jammu, limited following in Kashmir
6/5/2014 11:44:23 PM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, June 5: Not long ago there was a single regional mainstream party in Jammu and Kashmir and that was National Conference. The party had its base across the state with people religiously following the programmes being put forward by the leaders of this party. However, as on date National Conference is no longer the party of people of the state. Its base has shrunken like the size of world famous Dal Lake. The party that emerged as single largest party in the 1996 Assembly elections has been reduced to a party representing a few pockets of Kashmir. The party has virtually been wiped out from the scene from the Jammu division where Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has ma...

Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, June 5: The famous Hindi phrase, "Hathi Ke Dant Dikhane Ke Aur, Khane Ke Aur (Elephant has two set of teeth-one to show off and the other to chew with) aptly fits on Bharatiya Janta Party's (BJP) two Member of Parliaments (MPs) from Jammu region while taking oath as members of 16th Lok Sabha today, sadly ignored their mother tongue Dogri but preferred Hindi to make the affirmation.
