Ahead of formal announcement of assuming all powers and responsibilities of government late this evening, the Governor NN Vohra today firmed up his grip on the administrative and security affairs of the state.
After a daylong of hectic developments and consultations between Srinagar Raj Bhawan and Rashtrapati Bhawan, the Governor, N N Vohra, issued a Proclamation late this evening, in exercise of powers conferred by Section 92 of the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir, and assumed, with immediate effect all the functions of the Government of the State and all powers vested in or exercisable by anybody or authority in the State, other than the powers vested in or exercisable by the High Court.

In their separate protests the Amarnath Shrine Samiti, Jammu Bar Association and BJP today reiterated that the agitation will be resumed if the controversial land was not restored to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

The Indo-Pak talks on Kashmir- related confidence-building measures were put off indefinitely today as a top official, who was to lead the Indian side, had gone to Afghanistan in the wake of the suicide attack on New Delhi's mission in Kabul.
Officials in the Indian High Commission here said the meeting of the Working Group on cross-Line of Control confidence-building measures, which was to be held today, was postponed as Joint Secretary T C A Raghavan had gone to Kabul.
