Jammu, July 13: The headless commissions, statutory and constitutional bodies are expected to get their chiefs soon as the recently expanded cabinet of Omar Abdullah will have its maiden meeting in Srinagar tomorrow. Transfers and postings at top to middle echelons of Police and in the middle order of administration are also high on the agenda, sources said.
Crucial issues of hiking salaries of state government employees and matters related to the upcoming budget session of state legislature are also in the cabinet agenda. Omar’s Cabinet now has 18 members, including the Chief Minister. The meeting is being held at the Civil Secretariat at 11 am.
Sources said that the Cabinet will discuss, besides other issues, the appointments of State Information Commissioner (SIC), Chairpersons of State Accountability Commission, Human Rights Commission, Public Service Commission and State Electricity Regulatory Commission. New Delhi: Over 2.5 crore cases are pending in subordinate courts and more than 39 lakh cases in high courts across the country, the Rajya Sabha was told today.
"As per the reports received from the Registries of the High Courts, 39,10,858 cases were pending in the High Courts and 2,66,50,467 cases were pending in the Subordinate Courts as on December 31, 2008," Minister of Law and Justice Veerappa Moily said.
According to information received from the Registry of the Supreme Court, 50,659 matters (31,363 admission matters and 19,296 regular hearing matters) were pending there as on June 1, 2009, he told the Rajya Sabha.

Srinagar, July 13 : Life was crippled today due to general strike in the undeclared curfew free areas in Kashmir on the 78th anniversary of 1931 martyrs.
A report from Baramulla said that life was paralysed in this and other major towns and tehsil headquarters in north Kashmir with shops and business establishments remaining closed and traffic off the roads.
However, schools and government offices remained closed on account of government holiday today.
The report said that adequate number of police personnel remained deployed in the town and outskirts.

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has proposals to make the Class-X board exam optional and allow internal assessment in which the patten of questions would be similar to those in the board exam; the Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.
To ensure that the quality of education is not affected, the CBSE would ask the schools to complete the required course of study of Class-IX and X as per the Board's scheme of studies and follow prescribed textbooks, Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari said in a written reply.

Jammu, July 13: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway reopened to traffic on Monday after remaining closed for a day due to landslides.
The landslide has been fully cleared by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) and the traffic movement is smooth on the highway at Samroli, 78-km from here in Udhampur district, traffic police officials said.
They added a dozer has been kept at the spot in eventuality of any landslide in the rainy season.
The traffic police had late last night managed to clear over 400 stranded vehicles, including the Amarnath yatra convoy, they said.
