Syed Junaid Hashmi jammu, July 2: 4621 Kashmir Pandit families expressed willingness to return to Kashmir valley but even after three years, Jammu and Kashmir government has been unable to bring even one family back. To make the matters worse, Union Home Ministry is not ready to buy often repeated claims of Jammu and Kashmir government that situation has improved in valley and militancy is having its last breath. It still does not believe that valley is ready to accord warm welcome to the displaced Kashmiri Pandits. The ministry in its status report says that arrangements are being made for providing the facilities for return of Kashmiri Pandits once situation in Valley improves. Even the much advertised employment package and repeated assurances of both mainstream and separatists voices has been unable to bring back confidence among the displaced Kashmiri Pandits to return to their native places across the valley. Status report of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs speaks in volumes about how bleak New Delhi thinks the situation is and how difficult return of migrant families is...

7/2/2011 11:27:16 PM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 2: In a quick reaction to the Early Times story on suppression of information under RTI Act on the FIRs registered against Police officials on account of land grabbing in Jammu and Samba districts, J&K Police headquarters today claimed that delay in providing reply to the applicant was the result of shortage of Public Information Officers (PIOs) in Police organisation. Omar finally has the cake
Can he eat it as well?
7/2/2011 11:27:00 PM
Early Times Report jammu, July 2: Since the past six months, the priorities of National Conference (NC) seem to have changed. The ruling party no longer talks about autonomy. All the statements issued during the said period revolved around Omar Abdullah's term and NC's relation with its coalition partner. Although the Congress party has agreed that Omar shall hold office for six years, the recent statements of some senior Congress leaders have created a stir in the National Conference. It seems, the Chief Minister and his Papa have succeeded in persuading the Prime Minister to issue a statement favouring a full term for Omar. The Prime Minister issued the statement early this week. ...

Rustam jammu, July 2: The Government of India-appointed interlocutors for J&K have, it seems, finally realized that it is extremely difficult to find a solution acceptable to all the people inhabiting this sensitive border state. This became quite evident yesterday, when chief interlocutor and consultant editor of The Times Of India Dilip Padgaonkar stated that "Kashmir (read J&K) is a complicated issue and serious steps needed to be taken to resolve it." He didn't specify the "steps" which need to be taken to resolve the "issue." He simply said: "To find a solution to the long standing Kashmir dispute it is necessary to take serious steps…Kashmir is a complicated issue…Before any decision...

Jammu Waiting For Opportunity
People of MP, Bihar reject outright the Congress
7/2/2011 11:23:17 PM
Neha jammu, July 2: The Congress has no relevance as a party in the Kashmir Valley. The Congress has relevance only in Jammu province where the people have all along voted for the mainstream parties. And, it is here that the Congress is becoming unpopular by the day. The most important factor that has been working against the Congress in this province is the identification of the Jammu-based Congress ministers and leaders with the Kashmiri leadership. They have been behaving in a fashion that has only made the Dogras of Jammu province believe that their only duty is to endorse, respect and implement what the National Conference, which is leading the present government, does, suggests and s...

7/2/2011 11:22:23 PM
JAMMU: Probably haunted by the feeling of guilt over allegedly harassing his wife, who today died of burns at the GMC hospital here, a man jumped from 3rd floor of the building and was killed on the spot. This is the second such incident in the capital city in the past one week. On June 25 last, Usha of Janipura committed suicide by jumping into Chenab river from Akhnoor bridge following a tiff with her husband Sunil Kumar, a businessman. An hour, or so later Sunil too jumped into the river from the same spot and died. This way, a trivial issue of some minor misunderstanding led to the couple's unnatural death.
