Omar Govt's Corruption war- For or Against ?
9/2/2012 11:51:55 PM
Abodh Sharma Jammu, Sept 2: While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was questioning BJP's locus standi in demanding resignation of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over Coalgate scam that has brought the ensuing Monsoon Session of the Parliament to a grinding halt for over a week now, his own Government has given enough food and fodder to the Opposition in the last week for questioning his own stand against menace of corruption in the State. It is ironical that the Chief Minister has gone on record with his war cries against corruption on several occasions, while his Government has been working overtime to weaken the anti graft institutions like the State Accountability Commission(SAC) and State Information Commission (SIC). The Accountant Generals of Omar Government are fighting a legal battle in the State High Court seeking to take sting out of State Accountability Commission after it issued notices to some of the Ministers and Legislators beside blue eyed bureaucrats and technocrats of the State. The General Administration Department of the Government has recently issued notic...

Geelani raises another bogey, this time over SASB
9/2/2012 11:51:46 PM
early times report Jammu, Sept 2: Separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has raised another bogey to drive a wedge over the management of the annual Amarnath Yatra by demanding that the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) should be disbanded. It has become customary for the hardline separatist leader to raise issues which could disturb peace and tranquility in Jammu and Kashmir. Unrest and tension are the fodder on which the separatist campaign has survived in the State for the last 22 years. It is one thing to raise issues pertaining to his separatist political agenda, but quite another to talk of a highly sensitive issue like the annual Amarnath Yatra. Millions of devotees hold the H...

It is too early, premature to comment, clarifies Soz
9/2/2012 11:51:37 PM
'Amendment in RTI rules were not required' early times report Jammu, Sept 2: Clearly reflecting a mood of resentment against the ruling ally National Conference, the senior leader of Congress and MP Madan Lal Sharma today opposed and ruled out possibility of alliance with the party in next Assembly elections contending the move would not benefit the Congress in the backdrop of disappointment prevalent among the party workers at grass root level. J&K Pradesh Congress Committee chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz said it was premature to say at present if the two parties would go together during Assembly polls. It was during the rally of the Congress at Nagrota that Madan Lal Sharma opposed to the i...

Abandoned patient awaits death in GMC Jammu
Hospital administration accused of apathy
9/2/2012 11:51:01 PM
early times report Jammu, Sept 2: In a shocking case of medical negligence and apathy, a man has been left to die in a hospital in Jammu after authorities realized that he could not be saved. Lying on a stretcher in a corridor of the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu since this morning, the man has been completely ignored by hospital authorities. Even as passers-by have complained of a foul stench emanating from near him, the hospital staff has turned a blind eye to his deteriorating condition. Worse, the ailing man has no family or friends to look after him. "He has been lying here for the past 3-4 hours...there's so much of stinking smell here. The patient should be treat...

Ahead of winter season, CI agencies get busy to identify "loopholes" on borders
9/2/2012 11:50:05 PM
BHARAT BHUSHAN JAMMU, Sept 2: At least two months ahead of the forthcoming winter season, counter-insurgency (CI) agencies have started the massive exercise of identifying loopholes on the IB and the LoC here. Official sources said though the CI agencies and border troops were fully alert, the "highly- guarded" borders here were still porous at some places. A massive exercise was in progress to find out the loopholes and plug them to bring the infiltration at zero level, the sources added. Sources said the evident loopholes seemed to be the rivers and other water bodies, including nullahs, that flow across the borders into Pakistan. A constant vigil was being maintained around all ...

Farooq Abdullah gracious enough to acknowledge defeat
Autonomy & AFSPA
9/2/2012 11:49:44 PM
NEHA JAMMU, Sept 2: One may or may not agree, but it is a hard fact that NC president and Union Minister for Renewable Energy Farooq Abdullah on occasions publicly and gracefully acknowledges his defeat. Yesterday, he said something no NC leader, not even his son and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, would have dared to say considering the nature of the constituency he represents. The case in point was his yesterday's admission that it would take decades and decades for the State to get autonomy and for the AFSPA to go from the State. These are "complex issues," he said. In fact, he was quoted as saying "these are complex issues and may take century to implement them in toto". Not only this, h...
