Jammu, Jan 12: Following stepped up incidents of militant violence and infiltrations bids, the Defence Minister AK Antony and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired a high level meeting here today to review the overall security scenario. The meeting was attended by top brass of Defence Ministry, Army, Police, Paramilitary forces and civil administration.
Speaking at the meeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, “let us all consolidate the gains made in the direction of normalization of situation in J&K to make 2010 the year of consolidation”.
The Defence Minister, AK Antony stressed on enhancing vigilance on the borders and LoC keeping in view the increased attempts of infiltration in 2009 as compared to 2008.
Significantly, Antony Tuesday hinted at a further reduction of troops in Jammu and Kashmir in the light of the “improved situation” in the state, which is battling terrorist violence for the past 20 years. This would be in addition to the 30,000 troops that have been moved out of Jammu and Kashmir in the past two years.

JAMMU, Jan 12: There seems to be no respite for common man from chilly and icy conditions as the mercury continued to show downward trend in the state with Jammu recording a minimum of 2.2 degree Celsius, about four degree Celsius below normal.
The day temperature broke yesterday’s record of 9.0 degree Celsius and it further slipped to 8.5 degree Celsius, coldest ever since 1987. The city had recorded minimum temperature of 4.0 degree Celsius yesterday.
