Young voters want green signal on NOTA as mainstream political parties develop cold over latest electoral reform
Salman Soz terms apprehensions as disappointing
11/11/2013 12:03:09 AM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Nov 10: Young voters of Jammu & Kashmir are disappointed that they may not get option of rejection of candidates in elections since the mainstream parties are not willing to extend the 'None of the Above' (NOTA) option for next year's Assembly elections. While coalition partners National Conference and Congress believe that separatists would take advantage of this option and belittle the mainstream politicians in the state, opposition People’s Democratic Party believes that 'NOTA' is a non-issue in Jammu & Kashmir. The party is more worried about the 'political deficit' more so when the elections to the state assembly are hardly one year away. Young Congressman Salman Soz while expressing his disappointment over the apprehensions raised by mainstream leaders over the use of 'NOTA' option said that people of state should be given chance to use it as is being done by the other people of the country. Soz believes that this option would attract more people towards the electoral process in Jammu & Kashmir. "If NOTA is good for all states, it is good for ...

How Omar’s right hand man tried to gag media?
11/11/2013 12:03:00 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 10: The Chief Minister had on Saturday said that it was difficult to gag the media. "The media has grown strong and it is very difficult to gag it," he said. However, the government's love-hate relationship with the media narrates a different story. There have been attempts to gag the media during Omar's regime. The onslaught started during the budget session of the Legislative Assembly in 2010. For the first time three breach of privilege notices were issued against scribes in a single session. Noted journalist, Ahmad Ali Fayaz's disclosures about former Chief Minister's advisor and chief whip of National Conference, Mubarak Gul on February 28 in E...

If Congress turns up single largest party, NC, PDP may aspire for third place
11/11/2013 12:02:45 AM
Abodh Sharma Jammu, Nov 10: If emphatic predictions by Congress that it would win enough seats in the 2014 Assembly elections to form Government on its own in Jammu and Kashmir turn out true to the extent of its emergence as the single largest party, both National Conference and PDP would aspire and wish to end up third rather than a close second to Congress. Political gurus believe that if Congress found itself in such a position that it needed a partner to form the government, it would prefer to enter into coalition with a weaker partner rather than with a stronger one. "Even though both National Conference and PDP have been assuming comforting postures viz a viz Congress pre-empting ...

Media manipulator, instead of media manager......
11/11/2013 12:02:54 AM
It is no secret that the Chief Minister's right hand man manages to plant news in newspapers against his political opponents in various national as well as local newspapers. It is a matter of common knowledge in the National Conference that he has even planted news against some senior men within his own party on several occasions, with intent just to keep them away from power corridors. It is a different matter that he did not succeed in that even as his manipulation went about smoothly with his ever enticing ways of some men in media fraternity. Normally, he should have acted as Chief Minister's media manager but on the contrary he has been seen as a media manipulator. There have been ...
