| Record number of retired babus to contest LA elections | | Raja Ajaz formally jumps into politics | | | Bashir Assad
Srinagar, Nov 4: Though retired bureaucrats and senior officers joining the politics ahead of elections is not new in South Asian electoral democracy, however, the number of such bureaucrats joining politics ahead of 2014 elections in Jammu and Kashmir is all time high. And interestingly the number of retired government officials contemplating to participate in electoral fray will be more than those aspiring for birth in Upper House which is really something appreciable.
It will be perhaps for the first time that a good number of retired government officials will be seeking mandate from the public on tickets of all the three major political parties, Congress, PDP and NC. Till recent past there was a trend that the retired officials would join politics only to seek berth in the Legislative Council. At present, three former Chief Secretaries of the State - Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Vijay Bakaya and BR Kundal and three senior officers Naeem Akhtar, Sayed Asgar Ali and Ghulam Qadir Pardesi have assumed the charge of state's lawmakers.
In the 36 member Upper House, Sheikh...

"It is a fact that youth who picked up gun didn't pick it for the construction of roads, buildings, hospital or schools; they picked up guns in a disturbed political scenario. They were seeking political solution of the issue, not fighting for development," Omar said addressing a public rally in north Kashmir's Bandipora district. "It is my duty to construct roads...
| | | | Frustration, desperation | | Rising popularity of Mufti in Kashmir rattles NC | | | Rustam
JAMMU, Nov 4: The PDP of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has, it seems, become quite popular in Kashmir and its rising popularity has rattled the NC leaders, including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The Mufti factor in Kashmir has rattled and confused the NC leadership to the extent that it is saying that the "trifurcation" of the PDP is imminent. It is unlikely to happen.
The PDP may not click in Jammu province and Ladakh region because of some specific reasons, which are too well-known, but it is likely to perform exceedingly well in the Valley where its main political opponent is the NC, which now no longer commands the people's respect, despite the fact that some of the party leaders are ...
