Srinagar, Dec 23: As the curtains came down on the election process in the state, People's Democratic Party (PDP) emerged as the single largest party in the state with 28 seats. The party won 25 seats below the expected range of 28-33 seats from Kashmir. Much on the expected lines Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) could not open its account in the valley.
PDP made inroads in the summer capital by winning five out of the eight seats while as the National Conference won three seats. In the previous assembly elections all the eight seats of Srinagar had been won by National Conference. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was among the losers from the Srinagar district after he lost to Mohammad Ashraf Mir of People's Democratic Party.

JAMMU, Dec 23: The Jammu and Kashmir government has failed to give benefit of a centrally sponsored scheme Rashtriya Swastha Bima Yojna (RSBY) to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, despite the fact that state has nearly 24 percent population living below poverty line.
Sources informed Early Times that the scheme RSBY is meant for BPL families but Jammu and Kashmir stood at bottom in the list of states giving benefits to BPL families. JAMMU, Dec 23: The much hyped scheme of Union government Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) has hailed to provide even minimum employment guaranteed under scheme as against 100 days minimum work under the scheme, only 27 days employment has been provided so far in J&K till December 2014.
According to documents available with Early Times on an average only 27 days work has been provided to each household, who had sought work under the scheme, which is against the spirit of MNREGA which guarantees minimum working days of 100 days.
