TOP STORY OF THE DAY
J&K hides CAG report, likely to be tabled on last day
Guv left waiting!
3/3/2014 12:14:23 AM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Mar 2: Despite Governor N.N.Vohra's public disclosure of having ordered laying of report in the two houses of legislature, state government is unmoved and likely to table the report on the last day of this ongoing budget session. General Administration Department (GAD) has neither intimated the law department nor the two houses of the state legislature about when it would be tabling the audit report. In the business issued by the two houses for March 2, 2013; there is no mention of the CAG report. Though the government can bring report to two houses through supplementary business but insiders maintain that it is highly unlikely. If the sources are to be believed, the report is likely to be tabled on the last day of the budget session in both houses of the legislature.i.e March 4. This has come as shock to Raj Bhawan which had given its approval for tabling the report on February 24 i.e. 6 days ago and made the same public. If sources are to be believed, Raj Bhawan issued handout about its communication to state government vis-à-vis tabling of the rep...

Hyped website of Assembly still elusive
3/3/2014 12:14:09 AM
Abodh Sharma Jammu, Mar 2: With most likely the last session of the present Assembly coming to an end in two days, the coalition government has forfeited yet another chance of atleast looking to foster transparency in government functioning as hyped website of the State Legislature is still nowhere in sight. Despite the prolonged rhetoric, the State Legislature, which is the prime most constitutional entity of the State has failed to go online, defeating the essence of transparency and direct participation of the people in the processes of Democracy. The solemn House of State Legislative Assembly has been no less than a wonderland for the common people. Even that small chunk of the po...

3/3/2014 12:13:41 AM
Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Mar 2: Despite the clear cut directions from the High Court different government departments continue to create hurdles for the people who sell the tree oil in the Kashmir valley. The non-compliance of court orders has pushed the dealers to the wall with nobody coming to their help. High Court Judge, Justice Janak Raj Kotwal passed an order on February 20, 2014 asking the state government to allow Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to sell the tree oil (Arbofine extra) through its distributors/dealers/retailers. There was specific direction to Director Horticulture, Kashmir asking him to stay the orders asking for the seizure of tree oil and allowi...

Power deptt functioning scenario in Rajouri Div grim
3/3/2014 12:13:35 AM
Ajay Sharma Jammu, Mar 2: Power Department headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself as minister has failed the people of state on many fronts with loopholes galore in the system which have incapacitated the functioning at various levels. Notwithstanding tall claims made by the Chief Minister on power scenario front, the condition even at the division and sub division levels in the Power department is crying for attention of higher authorities. The instances are countless but Rajouri Division is one such where functioning has gone haywire on account of shortage of high ranking officials of the posts of AEs and AEEs which though posted are far less, rather deficient as per the requi...
