| | JAMMU, Mar 31: A joint delegation of all political outfits of Jammu and Kashmir would meet the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in New Delhi seeking his intervention for granting an additional amount of Rs 4200 crore for paying the arrears of Sixth Pay Commission to 4.5 lakh government employees in the State.
The consensus in this regard was reached out in the 'All Party' meet called by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at Civil Secretariat here. The meeting, which was started at around 10:30 a.m, lasted till 1:00 p.m. The representatives of Peoples Democratic Party and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) stayed away from the meeting.
The meeting, however, failed to evolve a consensus over the issue of enhancement of employees' retirement age from 58 to 60 years, particularly in the context of its impact on the ever increasing problem of unemployment in the State.
As no clear consensus could be evolved on this highly "sensitive" issue, it was decided that this needs to be deliberated upon further with different stakeholders, including the employees, with a view to... | |

JAMMU, Mar 31: Describing 'All-Party Meet' called by the Chief Minister as "failure" and "fruitless exercise", Joint Consultative Committee-an amalgam of several employees unions spearheading the agitation-today decided to go ahead with its seven days strike commencing from April 5 across the State.
The employees have further threatened that if their demands are not fulfilled, they would go on indefinite strike.

JAMMU, Mar 31: Four teenaged girls were today rescued by security forces from the clutches of militants in Kishtwar. Police sources said four girls, aged between 16-19, were abducted by
militants from Jawalpur forests of Kishtwar Tuesday.
After people approached them, troops of 26 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched an operation in the area last evening. Sources said after hectic searches in the forests, troops were able to free the girls from the captivity of militants. The girls were
later restored to their parents.
Sources said troops were continuing with their searches in the area to hunt down the militants.

A Vaishno Devi pilgrim Wednesday died all of a sudden while he was on his way to the holy cave shrine of the goddess in Trikuta Hills of Katra.
Police sources said Krishan Lal of Dehradun collapsed at Himkoti on way to the cave shrine. He was rushed to the nearby dispensary where doctors declared him brought dead.
After post-mortem, the body was handed over to his family members for last rites.

JAMMU: A government school teacher was Wednesday arrested by police for allegedly outraging the modesty of a 12th class student inside school premises at Jakhed in Ramnagar, Udhampur.
Police sources said Noor Mohammad, a teacher in Government Higher Secondary School, Jakhed, allegedly raped a 12th class student inside the school premises.
After the matter came to their notice, cops rushed to the school and took the accused in their custody. The victim was sent to hospital for medical examination. She hails from Jakhed.
