Though vehemently denied by the security forces and Police, the surviving son of Internationalist Democratic Party leader Hoshiar Singh suspected some foul-play or perfidy in the killing of his parents.
Lok Sevak Sambyal, a research scholar who had miraculous escape in the militant attack, claimed that his father and mother were specifically targeted by the militants as they were apparently on a mission to kill them. This is, however, not being agreed to by the security forces and Police who maintained that the militants were on a mission to target the Army formation and Hoshiar Singh was killed when he showed resistance.

The Centre has informed the Supreme Court that it had prepared a Rs. 1,618-crore package for return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits and other migrants, forced to move out of their land.
Solicitor-General G.E. Vahanvati told a Bench comprising Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justices R.V. Raveendran and M.K. Sharma that the package covering housing, cash relief, scholarship for students, employment and waiver of interest on loans would be placed before the court.
