TOP STORY OF THE DAY
PM : Terrorism be considered federal crime
5/19/2008 12:28:46 AM
New Delhi | May 18 Four days after the Jaipur bomb blasts, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, for the first time, made a strong pitch for designating offences like terrorism and drug smuggling as federal ones — to be investigated by a central agency. Either you have to kill him, otherwise you will be killed," Azad said, while speaking at a function organised by the Hind Samachar Group of newspapers to disburse Shaheed Parivar fund among terrorism affected families at Jalandhar. "We may have talks with the neighbouring country but as far as terrorism goes; there can be no tolerance ...

5/19/2008 12:26:42 AM
New Delhi | May 18 As the role of the CRPF in anti-Naxalite and counter-insurgency operations was increasing, the para-military force has again proposed setting up a separate intelligence wing, notwithstanding earlier turning down of the suggestion by the Finance Ministry. The proposal is pending with the Ministry and now a serious thought was being given to allow the CRPF to set up its own intelligence wing, officials in the Home Ministry said. The proposal, earlier turned down by Union Finance Ministry for want of funds, was mooted again after the CRPF decided to set up a Special Armed Force to counter left wing extremism amid reports that Naxalites would be stepping up their activitie...

Early Times Special Correspondent Jammu | May 18 Though in the meeting of its political Affairs Committee(PAC) in Srinagar on Saturday the PDP did not discuss the issue pertaining to the pre-poll alliance with the Congress, indications are that the majority of senior party leaders are in favour of contesting the ensuing Assembly election alone. In fact these PDP leaders do not seem to be as much bitter about the Congress as a party as they are about the role being played by Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who, they claim has been egging not oly his party colleague, Abdul Gani Vakil, Minister for Social Welfare, but also the Transport Minister, Hakim Mohd.Yasin, for launching a tirade...
