PM vows to tackle terrorism, inflation
‘Special attention to J&K’
6/1/2010 11:46:23 PM
ABID SHAH EARLY TIMES REPORT NEW DELHI, June 1: Predicting a growth rate of 8.5 percent for the year 2010-11, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has vowed to fight terrorism "root and branch" and pay special attention to Jammu and Kashmir along with a few other regions and improve relations with neighbouring countries. He was speaking here today while releasing his Government's Report to the People 2009-10 at the completion of his first year in office in UPA's second term in the presence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi besides colleagues from his Ministry. This is the second time in less than 10 days that Manmohan Singh has faced media to present the report card of his Ministry. Earlier on May 24, he had held a Press conference where he appeared to be too cautious while answering a plethora of questions by media persons. Some of those present found him to be a bit nervous at times through the Press conference. Unlike this, today Manmohan Singh was quite confident in the presence of Sonia Gandhi before whom he resolved to rededicate efforts by his Government for country's service. ...

Jazia on Amarnath pilgrims: Is J&K a secular polity?
6/1/2010 11:45:40 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 1: This was the opinion of the persons whom this correspondent interviewed to know what they actually thought about the issue that has created a fierce controversy in Jammu, with a number of socio-religious organizations holding press conferences almost everyday with a view to persuading the authorities to withdraw what they called "Jazia imposed on the Hindus." It needs to be underlined that the opposition to Shri Amarnath Yatra started immediately after Mufti Mohammad Sayeed of the People's Democratic Party took over as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. It was he who opposed the extension in the Yatra period on the spurious plea that such an extension w...

6/1/2010 11:44:42 PM
RUSTAM EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, June 1: The so-called constitutional experts like AG Noorani regard India as the prime cause responsible for the "agonies of Kashmir and Kashmiris" and boldly ask New Delhi to rectify the past mistakes. While doing so, they completely overlook the STARK REALITY that the Indian Army joined the State Forces only on October 27, 1947, a day after Hari Singh executed the Instrument of Accession under the terms and conditions of Britain's transfer of power to India and Pakistan, to perform its legitimate duty to not only check the Pakistani advance towards Srinagar, but also to liberate the 83,294 square kilometer land area (and the Indian people it housed) the ...
