| India protests as Pak rockets explode in Punjab villages | | | |

AMRITSAR: India on Saturday lodged a strong protest with Pakistan over the firing of three rockets from across the border that exploded two kilometres inside Punjab.
The issue was raised at a flag meeting between the BSF and Pakistani Rangers in the wee hours after the missiles landed in open fields in Modhey and Dhoneya Khurd villages in Attari sector on the Indo-Pak border, prompting retaliatory gunfire from the Indian border troops. There was no damage or casualty on the Indian side due to the Pakistani action last night, BSF Inspector General Himmat Singh said.
"We held a flag meeting at about 1 am and made a very strong protest to them (Pakistani Rangers) about this incident," he told reporters here.
"Yesterday night, at about 10 pm, the BSF troops posted at Pulkanjini border outpost saw flashlights and firing from Pakistan territory and after a very short gap, they heard explosions," Singh said.
"Our troops on the border retaliated immediately, very strongly...after that no incident of fire from Pakistani side was reported," he said.

Jammu, Sept 12: During the recently concluded session of Legislative Assembly the Finance Minister, A R Rather, announced the demise of the Bloeria Committee recommendations on the creation of new administrative units in the state. While making an announcement to this effect in the Legislative Assembly, Mr Rather said the committee’s report could not be implemented as it was ``incomplete’’.
Simultaneously, he also announced that a new committee would be constituted for this purpose soon. This committee would make recommendations for the creation of new tehsils, niabats etc.

Srinagar, Sept 12: Nearly 9000 militancy-affected people in Jammu and Kashmir will have reasons to cheer this Eid-ul-Fitr with the state government allotting Rs 2.86 crore for their welfare.
Under the National Council for Communal Harmony scheme, the amount has been released to various deputy commissioners of the state for disbursement among 8,964 militancy-affected people, Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo said addressing a meeting of Rehabilitation Council here today.
