Jammu, Sept 17: In a heightened security environment in view of the ensuing festival season, red alert was tonight sounded across the city and its outskirts after reports of a militant infiltration through International Border. A massive hunt was launched late in the evening as Police suspected a group of four militants having sneaked in even as border guards BSF was tight lipped over the issue.
Sources said that at around 6PM Thursday a Border Security Force was on patrol in Nikowal sub-sector of Pargwal sector when it came under fire from other side of the International Border.
The fire was effectively retaliated but in the exchange two BSF jawans were injured. Amidst panic and state of high alert, the injured jawans were rushed to the Government Medical College here. The injured jawans have been identified as Rajinder and Mandeep Gogi, both from Rajasthan. They are reported to have sustained deep bullet injuries and were under treatment.

Srinagar, Sept 17: Following media reports, including Early Times, about denial of passport to a footballer to travel abroad, the state government has intervened and advised the CID for immediate clearance.
Passport was denied to Basharat Bashir Baba who needed it to travel to Spain and Brazil for special professional training in Football Clubs. However, the CID department has not given clearance to him as he was son of Militant. His father was involved in militancy when Bashrat was not even born.

New Delhi, Sep 17 : Doctors who opt to work in rural areas will be duly compensated with extra money and weightage points that will help them while going for higher studies, Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad announced Thursday.
"The only way to attract the attention of doctors to work in difficult, most difficult and inaccessible areas is through incentives. We have requested the states to give us the list under the above categories. We can provide extra money as extra incentive," Azad told reporters.

New Delhi Sept 17: National Security Advisor M K Narayanan has convened a meeting of the China Study Group, comprising top officials, on Thursday to discuss the situation arising after Chinese Incursion reports.
The meeting being chaired by Narayanan, will be attended by Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar, Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar, Home Secretary G K Pillai, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao, will take stock of the situation along the Sino-Indian border, sources said.

Srinagar, Sept 17: The government has been making slow but steady progress on the implementation of the Right to Information (RTI) Act. In this connection, the processes are getting more streamlined and departments have started appointing Public Information Officers (PIOs). So far, of a total of 34 departments, no less than 27 have appointed their PIOs and only seven have failed to do the needful till date. On the other hand, seven public authorities, comprising autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, have also appointed their PIOs but 15 have not.
