Congress Legislative party tomorrow, allies to be invited
Jammu Congressmen to ‘register protest’ on Guru Resolution……..?
9/20/2011 10:29:21 AM
Early Times Report Jammu Sept 19: At a time when the opposition parties are bracing themselves up for cornering the ruling NC-Congress alliance over a host of issues during the ensuing Assembly session, both the alliance partners find their threads and strings of cohesion apart , at least on the crucial and controversial Afzal guru resolution which is bound to put Congress in an inconvenient and awkward position in the House. On how to face this seemingly embarrassing situation when its major ally NC will vote in favor of the resolution, things would be discussed threadbare in the Legislative Party meeting which has been convened on Wednesday, September 21. “ The party has convened the meeting on Wednesday evening in which scores of issues vital to governance and those having political significance would be discussed………it is not the Guru resolution alone that is on agenda or priority……”, said Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, J&K PCC Chief and senior leader of Congress. All the legislators would put forth their view point on these issues which would be registered for a final strategy...

Chief Minister wants poverty removed; his govt is removing the poor
9/20/2011 10:25:16 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 19- State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has equated the service to poor with service to God. He said Monday in summer capital Srinagar that the Social Welfare Department must mitigate the difficulties of poor and needy by implementing the schemes aimed at their amelioration with a missionary zeal. That is a wonderful statement and definitely one that should have been made and emphasized by the Chief Minister, but unfortunately, the assertion does not move beyond words. The Chief Minister said that in the process of fulfillment of social promises of the Government, the Social Welfare Department has a pivotal role to play and ensure benefits of schemes reach t...

`Forgotten’ Sheikh Nazir urges leaders to reach people
9/20/2011 10:24:46 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 19: No doubt National Conference (NC) Secretary General, Sheikh Nazir lives in hibernation but he has urged the NC leaders to stay in touch with the people. Nazir has been living in isolation since the past few decades. He is seen lying on his bed in his somewhat dingy room. A box beneath his bed, people close to him believe, contains vital documents on Kashmir history. Sheikh rarely gives interviews. His hibernation has cost him dearly. Despite being an important figure in the NC, he is almost forgotten by the people. Realizing that separatism still sells in Kashmir; the NC high command used Sheikh Nazir as a poster boy. He was seen launching...

Difficult time for Congress, coalition in crisis
Resolution on Guru
9/20/2011 10:21:37 AM
STARK REALITY -- I RUSTAM JAMMU, Sep 19: Ruling party in the state, like any other ruling party anywhere in the country, has the power to accept any private member’s bill. No one can question its authority and prerogative. It is true that ruling party or ruling coalition is considered non-partisan the moment it assumes power or the office. This is what people’s democracy really means. However, it would be difficult to say if the ruling party or the ruling coalition doesn’t watch, protect and promote further its political interests. It can also be said that the ruling party or the ruling coalition takes decisions which do not in any manner harm it or harm the coalition partners. ...

Reality bites! Cong, PDP eroding NC's support in Rajouri, Poonch
9/19/2011 12:32:43 AM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Sept 18: After having been literally wiped out from erstwhile district Doda, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Congress have begun eroding foundations of National Conference in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Both PDP and Congress have made significant political gains, inversely damaging NC, which is heading the coalition government in the state. The two parties are working at snail's pace, reaching out to the masses in far-flung and hilly areas of twin districts, gaining their confidence and strengthening their respective parties. Presently, Rajouri District has 4 assembly constituencies Nowshera, Darhal, Rajouri and Kalakote while Poonch has t...
