| Close to LoC, Poonch-Rajouri not aware of trade | | | | HAMAAD SALIF
POONCH, Sept 28: In sharp contrast to a sense of ecstasy and feeling of victory in Kashmir Valley on cross-LoC trade agreement, there is no awareness among the people of Rajouri and Poonch on which is going to happen in late October.
The cross-LoC trade between two parts of divided Jammu and Kashmir has to run through two routes –Srinagar-Muzaffarabad and Poonch-Rawalakote. While on the longer route, Srinagar-Muzaffarabad, there are business plans, hopes and expectations and on the shorter route, Poonch-Rawalakote, the cross-border trade is a strange word to majority of locals.
Many spoken to in this historical border town of Poonch feigned their ignorance about the LoC trade. “We have heard on radio but don’t know anything beyond that”, says Sat Pal, a shopkeeper in the town. Gufoor Khan, another smalltime businessman on way to Chakan-da-Bagh crossing point, says, “we are keen to trade with Rawalakote but have not been gather knowledge about how to proceed”.

| Governor visits Chakan-da-Bagh terminal | | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
POONCH, Sept 28: Getting ready for the historic Cross LoC trade, Chakkan-da-Bagh, the remote forward area in Poonch district, this morning hummed with activity, as Governor N N Vohra, inspected work on the Trade Facilitation Centre which is coming up on war-footing basis.
Vohra reviewed the Project with the senior officers and stressed the need for completing the first phase of the Centre immediately, as the cargo will move on this border route from October 21.
The Governor inspected the arrangements being made to establish the Facilitation Centre on 70 kanals of land, 2.5 kilometers ahead of the Zero Point. This facility is being established at a cost of Rs. 19 crore.... | |

JAMMU, Sept 28: Nearly a month after suspension of the two-month long agitation on Amarnath land row, the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti members today called on the Governor NN Vohra –none of the sides has explained the basic purpose of this unprecedented meeting.
