VC accommodates retired banker to teach management in BGBSU
All is not well in Omar's Raj! Appointment without inviting applications, University accepts
9/5/2011 12:16:56 AM
Sumit Sharma JAMMU, Sept 4: Vice-Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) has in complete breach of competitive rules accommodated a retired bank employee as a faculty member by using special discretionary powers vested in him. The retired bank employee is now a faculty member and if the insiders are to be believed, government has vested the vice-chancellor of BGBSU with express powers to make appointments, carry out admissions and take all other necessary steps which are 'in the interest of administration'. Adhering to the decree from the top, VC of BGBSU has begun taking decisions in the 'interest of administration.' Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who has since day 1 preferred and relied excessively on administrative advice over media reportage is seemingly convinced that all is well in institutions which are under his direct control. He seemingly likes selective media reporting and terms rest of it 'blackmail' and 'unnecessary brazen interference' in the government functioning. VC BGBSU has for the first time dared to accept that S.K.Gupta, who recently ret...

Exploring legal options: BJP, dare them to file case against me: Omar
9/5/2011 12:15:23 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sep 4: Politics of provocation is at its peak in the state over Afzal Guru issue. While BJP two days back said that it would consider legal options to register protest against Chief Minister over his remarks , the latter today dared the BJP head on to file a case against him over his Guru tweet. Ruling Congress and two other opposition parties PDP and J&K NPP are maintaining guarded silence when both Omar and BJP are virtually locking horns. The Chief Minister remained silent over BJP reaction in what they called it as all out offensive packed with three pronged strategy inclduing the move to bring privilege motion motion against Omar Abdullah. However the par...

Kashmir doesn't have any mainstream politician
Hanging Of Guru
9/5/2011 12:14:16 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Sep 4: Bulk of the Indian media and the parties like the Congress, the CPI, the CPI-M, the BJP, to mention only a few, term the NC and the PDP Kashmiri leadership as mainstream leadership. Their view is based on the fact that the NC and the PDP are not demanding secession. It is also based on the premise that the NC and the PDP demand solution to the so-called Kashmir problem within the framework of the Indian Constitution. The media and the parties like the Congress and the BJP are absolutely wrong. Their whole assessment is flawed and misplaced. The fact is that both the NC and the PDP have been indulging in soft secessionism ever since their formation. These formations are...

Clemency is good but what if hijackers seek it too!
9/5/2011 12:13:50 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sep 4: Omar Abdullah's comments on Afzal Guru have evoked severe criticism across India. The BJP has even torched his effigies at several places for seeking clemency for Afzal Guru. Afzal was awarded death sentence for his involvement in Parliament attack case. While Omar was ridiculed for his comments, the Punjab Chief Minister, Prakash Singh Badal made a similar demand. In a letter addressed to the President of India, he sought clemency for Devinder Singh Bhullar Singh's mercy petition was also rejected by the President who is on death row for plotting the attempt on the life of Punjab SSP Sumedh Singh Saini in 1991 and then Youth Congress worker M S Bitta ...

Any US "activism" in Kashmir may be counterproductive
9/5/2011 12:13:23 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sep 4: Even in the face of New Delhi's known opposition to a third party intervention in Kashmir still the senior US Government functionaries had cautioned washington against any proactive plan in he troubled state. The US Embassy in New Delhi had cautioned its government against any "activism" in Kashmir saying even a hint of it can prove counter-productive in view of India's hypersensitivity to third party involvement on the issue, according to a leaked US diplomatic cable. "Any hint of USG (United States Government) activism in Kashmir, however helpful the intentions behind it, will prove counterproductive because of the GOI's (Government of India) hypersens...

Dispute exists but don't disturb law and order: Chief Minister's strange logic
9/5/2011 12:11:48 AM
Early Times Report Srinagar, Sep 4: State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has again said the solution to the political issues of Jammu and Kashmir is on the anvil. He has asked politicians of all opinions to contribute in the pursuit of the solution positively and sincerely. It is strange that the Chief Minister should speak of a possible political solution on the anvil without specifying clearly what the solution is going to be. The Chief Minister is bound by oath of allegiance to the constitution of the State and the country according to which the State of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the country. The mere hinting of Omar Abdullah at some political solution on the anvil conv...

Dogra youth the Jammu's last hope
1000-Crore Package
9/5/2011 12:11:12 AM
Neha JAMMU, Sep 4: Last August witnessed the Dogras in a fighting mood. Not in a fighting mood. In fact, they fought splendidly and forced the otherwise adamant Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal and others of his ilk to climb down and drop the idea of appointing a non-Dogra as the first Vice-Chancellor of the Jammu Central University. The Union Government knelt under pressure created by the determined and unrelenting Dogras, especially the chivalrous, committed, honest and non-purchasable Dogra youth, including the school, college and university-going girl students. The Union Government appointed a Dogra as the Vice-Chancellor. Leave aside the fact that the opinion of the Do...

9/5/2011 12:09:52 AM
Jammu: In response to Omar Abdullah's tweets on Afzal Guru, some people advised him to write on no-controversial issues on the micro blogging site, Omar appears to have taken the advise seriously. Thank goodness I don't have to go to Bengali Market for chaat now." Recently Omar hogged all the headlines for his tweets on the issue of Mohd Afzal Guru and invited lot of good and bad criticism.
