Govt in spot, 300 striking medicos tender resignation

Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 10- The standoff between junior doctors and government further deepened today with 300 doctors from Jammu tendering en-masse resignation on the sixth day of their strike, while their counterparts in Srinagar also suspended the work from this afternoon. The extreme step by the striking doctors has come after government threatened to terminate fifteen doctors, all members of Doctors’ Joint Action Committee, the Association spearheading the strike. Meanwhile, the emergency services at government medical college Srinagar came to standstill this afternoon after junior doctors also joined ongoing stir by their counterparts in GMC Jammu. The impasse between government and doctors witnessed much hype during last one week with both sides blaming each other of resorting to pressure tactics. Early Times Report Srinagar Oct 10 Alert troops today foiled a major infiltration bid near the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector when they gunned down three heavily armed militants. The operation in the woods near the LoC was going on when the reports last came in, a Defence Ministry spokesman told . He said troops guarding the borders noticed a group of heavily armed militants sneaking into this side from the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) in Gurez sector early this morning under the cover of darkness. Rawalpindi (Pakistan): Heavily armed militants were holding up to 15 soldiers hostage inside Pakistan's army headquarters Saturday after they stormed the complex in an audacious assault on the nuclear-armed country's most powerful institution. The attack, which left 10 people dead including two ranking officers, was the third major militant strike in Pakistan in a week.
