SRINAGAR, Oct 31: Political controversy over the death of the National Conference (NC) activist Haji Mohammad Yousuf of Bijbehara today took a dramatic turn when Supreme Court of India issued notices to Government of Jammu & Kashmir as well as Government of India, asking why a murder case be not filed in the matter and why the inquiry be not assigned to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Senior Supreme Court advocate and Patron of the National Panthers Party (NPP), Prof Bhim Singh, told Early Times that with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on behalf of NPP President and MLA Udhampur, Balwan Singh Mankotia, he appeared today before a two-judge Bench at the apex court. According to him, the petitioner has complained that Haji Yousuf had died in "suspicious circumstances" hours after coming out of J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's office-cum-residence on Gupkar Road, Srinagar, on September 30th. 'Overstepping' his jurisdiction, Taj shoots letter to Sonia | Defiant on Soz stance, says will continue to support Omar | | Saroj Razdan
Jammu, Oct 31: In what can be seen as PHE Minister Taj Mohi-u-Din taking up direct cudgels against PCC Chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz and overstepping his authority and jurisdiction, the former shot a letter to Congress president and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today, preferring to explain his 'position' on the controversy erupted within the party after he contradicted the stand taken by state Congress president over AFSPA revocation. Taj who is openly seen as the only Congress Minister supporting NC and Omar Abdullah, is also learnt to have sought to clear the air on accusations coming from party leaders over his disinclination on change of guard and any move to have Chief M...

The party leaders and PCC functionaries have expressed unequivocal support to the PCC chief and hit out at Taj for what they have termed as defying the party line on AFSPA and other issues.

| | Congressmen taking on Taj indicative of cleansing process in party | AFSPA & Rotational CM | | Neha
JAMMU, Oct 30: PHE minister Taj Mhi-ud-Din was destined to face heat and criticism for his seemingly pro-CM Omar Abdullah views and it has actually happened, though belated. The patience of the Congressmen, including ministers and JKPCC functionaries finally ended yesterday and they virtually asked Taj to quit the party as he clearly appeared to be a NC man in the Congress party. Significantly, it was a full-scale attack on Taj and those who castigated him belonged to both the provinces, Jammu and Kashmir. It could be construed as one more significant development in the Congress party, which has of late started asserting and put the NC leadership on the mat.

| | Omar can't take unilateral decision, says Manish | NDTV Debate On AFSPA | | Rustam
JAMMU, Oct 30: Once again on Sunday, Barkha Dutt of NDTV 24X7 organized a motivated discussion on Jammu and Kashmir. This time, it was on the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA). The programme was, as everyone knows, "we the people". She ensured the maximum participation of the critics of the AFSPA and they included the clueless and confused NC MP Mehboob Beg, senior Supreme Court lawyer and human rights activist Colin Gonsalves, Meenakshi Ganguli of the Human Rights Watch (HRW), human rights activist Babloo from Manipur and a number of young Kashmiris, including Muslims and Kashmiri Hindus, all perverted. To strike a balance, she ensured the participation of Lt General (Retd) B...

| | Is NC really a movement? | Feeding lies to people | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 31: A National Conference leader yesterday said the PDP was habitual of leveling wild allegations against its leadership. They on one hand, level false allegations, but at the same time, without feeling ashamed, tender apology publicly which speaks volumes about their political bankruptcy."
Feeling ashamed and apologizing in public, for his information needs courage. Political circles believe that a person who apologizes for his mistakes has sound character. This is something which other politicians lack.
He said, "Omar Abdullah is the first Chief Minister who despite being in power has un-ambiguously made it clear before the Indian leadership that Kashmi...
