| Blame it on administrative inertia: Indira Awas Yojana falls flat in J&K | | 100 percent pendency in 9 out of 16 districts | | | Akshay Azad
Jammu, Jan 31: Contrary to eloquent speeches of coalition partners in all public rallies, appealing poor masses to avail benefits of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), the Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) meant for providing housing to Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, has shown chronically dismal performance for the ongoing financial year, as 68 percent applications are still pending for sanction. Most shockingly, in the list of 16 districts, nine districts have shown 100 percent pendency of cases.
Sources informed Early Times that a total of 3436 applicants were registered in the Management Information System (MIS) across 16 districts of State under IAY scheme for the financial yea...

Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 31: The Additional General Secretary of National Conference, Dr Mustafa Kamaal remains in news for his `controversial' statements. While most of his statements are ridiculed or rubbished, his recent statement on AFSPA merits an in-depth analysis.

The AFSPA became an Act on September 10, 1990 when it got the concurrence of the then Governor. Immediately after this, a notification declaring the Valley as disturbed area was issued. In 1992 the President of India repealed the Act and enacted Jammu Kashmir Dist...

| | | | NC continues to put pressure on Congress | | Administrative units row | | |
Rustam
Jammu, Jan 31: NC working president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah continues to put pressure on the Congress on the issue of new administrative units, notwithstanding the climb down by the latter. After yesterday's developments, an impression gained ground that both the coalition partners have reached a broad consensus on the sensitive issue of new administrative units and that they would stop airing views against each other. This impression seems to be ill-founded when viewed in the light of what Omar Abdullah on Thursday told CNBC-TV18.
Omar Abdullah did tell the news channel that "we (NC) are not fair-weather friends," but, at the same time, he refused to take a clear-cut st...
