JAMMU, Mar 14: CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA Kulgam, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, today presented two particular issues of Early Times to Speaker of Legislative Assembly and demanded a thorough investigation by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the charges of corruption and other malpractices against the officials of the State Transport Department. In a series of reports on March 13th and 14th, this newspaper had revealed how one group of corrupt officials had sponsored a “sting operation” against another group of corrupt officials in an attempt to grab “plum postings”. It had also published an investigative story on how a junior assistant had been inducted into the prestigious Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) and retained on a prize position in Transport Department inspite of the fact that records of all inquiries against him, as also official records of the 50,000 driving licenses issued by him in two years in Doda-Udhampur, had been destroyed.

In what could be seen on a warning note, PHE Minister Taj Mohi-ud-din asserted that J&K will not give an inch of land to Punjab government for the construction of Shahpur-Kandi barrage on Ranjit Sagar Dam until and unless the neighbouring state duly compensated the losses accrued by the State.
He said this on the floor of the House today while replying to the debate on Demands for Grants for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control.

The fire, which started from the Pak side in the afternoon, had spread over 1.5 km inside the Indian territory, police sources said.Sources said dozens of blasts were heard after the flames engulfed

Official sources said a drug department team led by Inspector Imitiaz raided Ashu Medical Hall in Mendhar market and seized over 100 veterinary injections.
The sale of these injections was banned in the market, the sources added.
The chemist had been asked to produce bills of the seized injections before the department, failing which an action under law was likely to be taken against him.

After a gap of 10 years, Jammu and Kashmir will have a 16-phase poll, starting April 13, for over 4,000 panchayats (village councils), without 73rd amendment of Indian constitution under government rule 7 notification for sarpanchs and panchs.
The elections will be completed on June 30 and the notification for Ist phase of polling will come on March 18, discloses chief electoral officer B.R. Sharma at a press conference here today.

JAMMU, Mar 14: A minor boy was crushed to death by a speeding minibus outside a private school on B C Road here today.Police sources said Kirti Pandita, son of Rani Kumar of Qasim Nagar,
was crossing the B C road when a speeding minibus (JK02K/7259) crushed him to death.
The incident took place when the child came out of his school after taking his paper, the sources added.
