JAMMU, Mar 27: Advocates of the 33% reservation for women in legislative bodies have one the one side closed all doors for women, representatives of economically weaker sections, intellectuals and the high-profile men in education and other social services but at the same time created the dubious precedent of accommodating as many as 11 of the defeated candidates in the Legislative Council in Jammu & Kashmir. In a few days from now, exactly 33% of the seats in the ‘House of Elders’ will be occupied by those politicians of different political parties who have been rejected by people of the state in the recent Assembly elections---if the Government succeeds in hoodwinking Governor N N Vohra, who has been a career bureaucrat for decades.

New Delhi, Mar 27 : The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of tenure of Madhukar Gupta as the Home Secretary for another three months.
Gupta, who is an IAS officer of Uttarakhand Cadre of 1971 batch, would be retiring from the Home Secretary post on March 31. Now, the government has approved the extension of his service for a period of three months beyond the date of completion of the two years of his tenure on March 31, 2009, i.e. until June 30, 2009.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 27 :At least 50 persons were killed when a suicide bomber struck a mosque packed with worshippers for Friday prayers in Pakistan’s restive north-west Khyber tribal region today and the two-storey shrine also collapsed in the blast.
In one of the worst terror strikes in the country, the mosque situated in Jamrud area of Khyber tribal agency was targeted leaving at least 100 persons injured. About 300 persons were reported to be inside the mosque at the time of the attack.

Srinagar, Mar 27 : Police claimed to have arrested three militants in different areas of North Kashmir on Friday and recovered Arms, ammunition and a Pakistani passport from their possession.
Police sources told that acting on specific information regarding the presence of militants in Nihalpora area of Pattan in Baramulla district; a joint party of Army’s 29 Rashtriya Rifles and special operations group (SOG) of police conducted raids in the area on Thursday night leading to the arrested of two militants associated with the banned Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit.

JAMMU, Mar 27 : A team of police personnel belonging to the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday traced the couple who had gone missing from Udhampur district in Jammu division six days back.
A police source told that Khemraj son of retired army personnel hails from Doda, was pursuing his master’s degree course in Commerce stream. Sources said that Khemraj had met Anjum, a Bsc 2nd year student hailing from Nagrota area few months back and both developed a liking for each other.
Sources said that both eloped from Udhampur and fled to Delhi where both of them got married clandestinely with the help from an NGO and some of their friends.
